Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
The Oncology Financial Navigator plays a critical role in supporting patients throughout their cancer treatment journey by helping reduce financial barriers to care. This position provides individualized financial guidance and navigation services to ensure patients can access and continue treatment with confidence and minimal financial hardship. The Financial Navigator proactively identifies and addresses barriers to ongoing clinical care by collaborating across departments and coordinating financial support resources. This role works closely with clinical operations, physicians, and key internal and external stakeholders throughout the revenue cycle, including Patient Access, Authorization, Patient Accounts, Patient Assistance Programs, Pharmaceutical Drug Replacement Programs, and other financial assistance resources. Key responsibilities include conducting comprehensive financial assessments for all patients prior to treatment initiation to evaluate potential financial toxicity and identify available support options. The Financial Navigator helps patients explore insurance benefits, coverage alternatives, drug replacement opportunities, charitable assistance, and applicable state and federal programs. This position is dedicated to maximizing patient access to treatment, improving the patient experience, and ensuring every patient receives the financial support and advocacy needed throughout their care.

Monday - Thursday 8:00 - 5:00 REQUIRED
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Related work experience with Coding, billing and insurance precertification may qualify in lieu of education. Associates Degree in Medical Coding or related field preferred. Minimum of 2 years medical business office experience with insurance procedures, billing and patient interaction preferred. Knowledge of diagnostic ICD-10 procedural (CPT) coding, CMS guidelines and cancer terminology Basic Microsoft Office computer skills including word processing and Outlook Ability to develop effective working relationships with the Oncology team
RESPONSIBILITIES
Insurance and eligibility verifications and assessment of financial requirements of recommended cancer treatment, testing, and procedures. Providing financial counseling to patients regarding insurance benefits, co-payments, and maximum out-of-pocket amount pertaining to cancer treatment; Determining patient eligibility for any Federal, State, and pharmaceutical assistance programs; Establishes and maintains effective relationships with the healthcare team and patient. Exemplifies excellent customer service during interactions with patients, employees, providers and others to build the Oncology program. Interface and problem solve, if needed, with the referring provider and/or clinic staff around financial and insurance issues Answer patient, providers and staff member questions about financial and insurance issues. Initiate call to appropriate services for intervention when appropriate. Expedites treatments by obtaining benefit information, verifying patient insurance eligibility and level of coverage; understand Medicare/Medicaid regulations and billing guidelines as they pertain to patient benefits; understanding of billing primary, secondary and tertiary insurance claims. Computes patient liability and works with social work and others resources to minimize patient distress as it relates to treatment financial matters. Provide local resources - financial / emotional support Arrange rides Help patients arrange daily household maintenance and transportation Performs other work-related duties as reasonably requested/directed.
