Job Description
Linden Surgical Center is searching for a dynamic individual to join our team as a Per Diem Circulating/Operating Room Nurse (RN). The primary responsibility of the Circulating/Operating Room Nurse is to provide care and support to patients throughout the entire perioperative process.
Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Organizes nursing activities, time, equipment, supplies, and personnel to provide effective and efficient case management.
- Supervises and directs patient care in a single operating room.
- Leads and coordinates teams, appropriately delegate, coordinate care and collaborate with others as equal members of the inter-professional care team to integrate nursing knowledge.
- Monitors and evaluates cost effective practices within the ASC.
- Ensures that all supplies, drugs and equipment are stocked and readily available.
- Transports patients to the operating room observing policies/procedures, safety requirements, and patient needs making sure to address the needs of the patient during admission to the OR, paying close attention to requirements specific to the outpatient setting.
- Identifies the patient and correct surgical intervention according to policy/procedure and communicates information to all members of the surgical team; reviews patients' medical records/needs to plan care with other healthcare team members.
- Provides excellent patient care including: offering comfort and reassurance to patient and explaining the procedures and care during the intraoperative phase to the patient.
- Maintains patients' privacy and dignity and the confidentiality of information regarding the patient, their families and staff members.
- Performs the circulating nurse's role and functions following approved operating room procedures to meet the requirements of scheduled procedures
- Prepares operating room according to the preferences of the surgeon as well as the requirements of patient and procedure to be performed.
- Assembles and provides properly functioning equipment, supplies, and instruments before start of procedure and positions and adjusts equipment as required during the procedure.
- Anticipates needs of surgical team and assists anesthesia personnel by supporting patient during administration of anesthesia.
- Assists with the proper and safe positioning of the patient and identifies, confirms and prepares operative site as directed by established procedures.
- Observes and enforces strict standards of asepsis.
- Monitors and assess patient status and comfort according to established parameters.
- Provides continuity of patient care by communicating with other perioperative care personnel and documenting records accordingly.
- Responds in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and physician.
- Accurately comprehends and interprets verbal orders/directions.
- Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely in a timely manner in the appropriate format on the appropriate forms.
- Effectively and accurately communicates with others responsible for care of the patient about patient's status.
- Must be a critical thinker—possessing the ability to make decisions and solve problems and be fast to act in emergencies
- Maintains a cooperative work attitude toward staff, management, patients, visitors, and physicians.
- Able to promote favorable facility image with physicians, patients, insurance companies, and general public.
Requirements:
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing
- RN with active license in NJ
BLS/ACLS
certified- Leadership qualities
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Strong ethical and moral character references
- Language skills adequate for high-level written, interpersonal, and telephone communication In American English
- Computer literacy
Preferred:
ACLS / BLS / PALS
certifications- Previous ASC experience
BSN Physical Demands:
Require high-level visual and auditory acuity for timely response and patient care assessment activities. Ability to move quickly in response to physician and patient needs, and to stand for long periods. Occasional overhead and low reaching, and to exert force of up to 50 lbs. occasionally, up to 20 lbs. frequently and/or up to 10 lbs. constantly. Patient care activities may require the ability to exert force of up to 30 lbs. constantly, up to 40 lbs. occasionally and up to 100 lbs. rarely.Occupational Exposure:
Category I exposure to blood-borne pathogens, may encounter chemical hazards.Pay:
