Job Description

Job Summary:
The Operations Manager is a critical leadership role responsible for the end-to-end supply chain function of a life science distribution company. This individual will oversee all aspects of purchasing, inventory management, and logistics to ensure product availability, cost efficiency, and regulatory compliance across the organization's distribution operations. The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of life science supply chains — including reagents, laboratory consumables, scientific devices, or related products — and is equally adept at managing vendor relationships, optimizing stock levels, and coordinating third-party logistics providers. This role requires a strategic thinker who can roll up their sleeves and drive day-to-day operational excellence. Purchasing and Procurement Manage the full procurement lifecycle from purchase order issuance, receipt, and invoice reconciliation Develop and maintain relationships with preferred suppliers Evaluate new vendors against quality, regulatory, and cost criteria; maintain an approved vendor list Inventory Management Establish and maintain optimal reorder points, safety stock levels, and cycle count schedules across all SKUs Own inventory accuracy; investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner Implement and continuously improve inventory control procedures within the ERP system Coordinate with Sales and Customer Service to align stock availability with demand forecasts and customer commitments Lead periodic physical inventory counts and reconcile results to financial records Logistics and Distribution Oversee inbound freight and outbound shipping operations, including carrier selection, rate negotiation Manage third-party logistics providers and cold chain/temperature-controlled shipment requirements where applicable Ensure on-time delivery metrics are met; develop corrective action plans for service failures Maintain compliance with hazardous materials shipping regulations (IATA, DOT) Partner with the warehouse team to optimize receiving, put-away, pick/pack, and dispatch workflows Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Life Sciences, or a related field, or equivalent experience 5-8 years of progressive experience in supply chain, purchasing, or operations Hands-on proficiency with ERP systems (Odoo a plus) Strong working knowledge of inventory control methodologies Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; ability to build and interpret operational dashboards and reports Background in import/export compliance and Incoterms Experience with cold chain logistics and temperature-sensitive product management Valid driver's license Good multi-tasker and team player willing to do a multitude of tasks in a small entrepreneurial environment. High level of energy and creativity This position is a 5-day-a-week office-based. The role requires the ability to lift up to 60 lbs occasionally, stand for extended periods during cycle counts or inventory audits, and operate within temperature-controlled storage areas as needed.

Pay:
$70,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
