Job Description
Are you looking for a career in health care? Eye Consultants of Pennsylvania (ECOP) has an on-the-job training opportunity to get your foot in the field without needing any certifications. Here at ECoP, we are one of the top leading eye care specialists in the area, we strive in providing further education to our employees. All assistants will be provided on the job training and company paid materials and exam to become a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA). Every technician will be eligible to get their certification through the accredited COA program through JCAHPO. As long as you are employed at ECoP, your certification will be paid, recertifications, and trainings will be provided. Did I forget to mention that you can take your COA certification anywhere in the US? It is true it belongs to you and accepted at all eye physician offices. The Wyomissing office is looking to hire a full-time ophthalmic assistant also known as a technician. This position is similar to a medical assistant in general medical practices. Job duties include but not limited to the following:
- Confirm information on the new patient sheet.
- Update patient histories, including chief complaint, review medical and personal information.
- Verify all medications and update if needed.
- You will learn how to check visual acuities: distance, near, pinhole, color vision, and other testing as needed.
- You will learn while on the job on how to perform tonometry, lensometry, visual fields, auto
- refractor and topography.
- You will learn how to us an A-scan, OCT, HRT, B-scan and a Specular Miroscopy.
- You will learn how to provide the Schirmer tear test, Amsler grid and Pentacam. Through you're on the job training you will eventually be able to do the following:
- Check pupil size and reaction and dilate pupils
- To recognize the classic symptoms of certain ocular conditions and emergencies and handle them accordingly.
- To communicate with the patient by projecting a helpful and confident explanation to the patient's questions and concerns.
- Perform post laser tension check and visual acuity, then document findings for the doctor to review.
- Work alongside with our many Physicians who handle several eye specialties.
