Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Optometrist to join our dynamic healthcare team. In this vital role, you will provide comprehensive eye care services, including vision assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans. Place of Performance; Services will be performed at Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Sandstone, MN 55072. Schedule Provide at least two (2), six-hour clinical visits per month. The overall total of clinical visits for a contract year will be 144 clinical visits per year. Each hour will be considered one (1) session. There will be an estimated 10
  • 20 patients per clinic.
Clinics will typically be scheduled between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., excluding Federal Holidays. Qualifications The contract employee must be a graduate of an accredited university, with a degree in Optometry, must be eligible for Board Certification and must have a license to practice in the State of Minnesota. The perspective Optometrist must provide proof in current skills as an Optometrist. The optometrist must have the ability to work with an inmate population from a variety of cultural, regional, racial and ethnic backgrounds. Must have knowledge of routine office related duties including working knowledge of computers, word processing programs and be able to type. The optometrist must possess good organizational skills, good interpersonal relationship skills and be able to work effectively with the medical staff. Responsibilities Conduct thorough eye examinations using advanced diagnostic tools to assess visual acuity, ocular health, and overall eye function Diagnose and treat a variety of eye conditions, including refractive errors, glaucoma, cataracts, and ocular infections Prescribe corrective lenses and recommend appropriate vision correction solutions tailored to each patient's needs Maintain accurate and detailed medical records using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems in compliance with HIPAA regulations Educate patients on eye health, preventive care, and proper use of prescribed eyewear or treatments Collaborate with ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals for complex cases requiring specialized ophthalmology expertise Ensure aseptic techniques are followed during examinations and procedures to maintain a sterile environment Stay current with advancements in physiology knowledge, medical terminology, and industry best practices to provide the highest quality care
