Job Description

Category Nursing - RN-Operating Room Job Type Contract Step into a critical perioperative nursing role supporting cardiac surgical teams and providing expert clinical assistance throughout the surgical process. This contract opportunity focuses on perioperative care, primarily second-assisting within cardiac operating room cases and supporting the cardiac surgery program regionally.
Key Responsibilities:
Work directly under the attending physician during cardiac surgical procedures, assisting with exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative tasks. Serve as a 2nd assist for cardiac operations, providing technical expertise that ensures safe and optimal surgical outcomes. Perform preoperative and postoperative duties, contributing to comprehensive care for cardiac surgery patients during the perioperative period. Participate in regional call coverage, facilitating continuity across the cardiac surgery program and supporting patient care throughout the UH system.
Qualifications:
Current and valid RN license. Graduate of an accredited nursing program with completion of an RN First Assistant (RNFA) program. Demonstrated experience in nursing within an operating room environment, ideally with exposure to cardiac surgical procedures. Proficient knowledge of intraoperative surgical techniques, patient care standards, and perioperative best practices. Strong critical thinking, organizational, and communication skills. Flexibility to work on-call as part of a regional cardiac surgery support team.
