Job Description

Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract Make a meaningful impact by supporting students' growth and independence as a full-time Orientation and Mobility Specialist for the 2026-2027 school year. In this dynamic contract role, you'll work closely with visually impaired students, providing essential instruction that fosters safe, confident travel within and beyond the school environment. Collaborate with dedicated educational teams to empower students to reach their fullest potential.
Key Qualifications and Desired Experience:
Valid certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) Experience working with students who are visually impaired or blind in school settings Strong understanding of assessment tools and adaptive techniques specific to orientation and mobility Effective communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams Commitment to promoting independence and accessibility
Primary Responsibilities:
Assess students' orientation and mobility needs and develop tailored instructional plans Deliver direct instruction focused on safe, effective travel techniques utilizing canes, adaptive devices, and environmental cues Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and families to integrate O&M strategies across academic and community settings Document progress, prepare individualized reports, and participate in IEP meetings Stay current with best practices, technology, and resources in the field of orientation and mobility Enjoy a rewarding school-based opportunity where your expertise will support the vital skills that students need for lifelong success.
