Job Description

Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract Make a meaningful difference as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist, guiding students to greater independence and confidence for the 2026-2027 academic year! This full-time contract opportunity is ideal for professionals passionate about supporting students with visual impairments, helping them learn vital orientation and mobility skills within a welcoming school environment. You'll collaborate with a dedicated team of educators and specialists, providing assessment, personalized instruction, and advocacy to empower students in their academic and daily life journeys.
Desired Qualifications:
Valid OMS or Orientation and Mobility Specialist certification Demonstrated experience working with students in an educational setting Comprehensive knowledge of mobility techniques, assistive technology, and individualized education plans (IEPs) Strong communication skills for engaging with students, families, and interdisciplinary teams Empathy, patience, and a solution-oriented mindset
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct individual assessments to determine students' mobility and orientation needs Develop, implement, and monitor tailored instructional plans Teach concepts such as environmental awareness, route planning, cane techniques, and safe travel skills both on campus and within community settings Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and families to support student development and transition planning Maintain clear records, progress notes, and documentation in accordance with school procedures Participate in IEP meetings and contribute expertise to enhance the overall educational experience for visually impaired students Make a lasting impact in a role where your expertise directly supports student growth, independence, and success.
