Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding contract opportunity as a full-time Orientation and Mobility Specialist for the 2026/2027 school year. In this engaging role, you'll support students in developing skills that are essential to navigate their environments with confidence and independence. Your expertise will foster empowerment and safety, enriching the educational experience for children with visual impairments.
Key Qualifications:
Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) Knowledge of best practices in providing orientation and mobility instruction to school-aged learners Experience working with students in K-12 educational settings, preferred Strong communication skills for collaborating with educators, families, and support staff Ability to develop and implement individualized plans based on student needs Valid credentials required for serving in schools
Core Responsibilities:
Deliver direct orientation and mobility instruction tailored to individual student goals Conduct thorough assessments to inform instruction and track progress Collaborate with educational teams to integrate mobility strategies into students' educational programs Prepare and maintain comprehensive reports, progress notes, and documentation Provide consultative support to teachers, families, and staff to ensure a safe and inclusive environment Participate in IEP meetings, contributing relevant information and recommendations Offer training on orientation and mobility tools, techniques, and resources This position offers the chance to make a meaningful difference while working full-time with a supportive educational community.
