Job Title:
Sports Specialist Reports to: Summer Camp Director Incarnation Camp is a traditional sleep-away summer camp located in Ivoryton (Essex), Connecticut on a beautiful 700-acre property with a mile-long private lake. IC is an independent not-for-profit organization. Our overnight camp is open to children ages 7-15 and has the distinction of being the oldest and longest continuously running co-ed summer camp in the United States. Since 1886, our mission has been to provide programs designed to engage campers in nurturing their physical and emotional growth. Through recreation, sports, nature, and arts programs, we create an atmosphere where campers can explore their interests while building character and friendships. Our campers and staff are a diverse group of people coming from all over the U.S. and around the world. Work Schedule and Compensation June 7th - August 15th (10 weeks total) Scheduled workdays generally range from 9:00 a.m. through 12:00 p.m. and resume from 2:00 p.m. through 6:00 p.m., with occasional evening activities from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. on pre-scheduled days. Periods of time off are given throughout the day. $2,800 summer stipend Full free summer lodging Free meals while on property Free laundry service Use of all camp facilities Pleasant and rewarding working conditions in a team environment Summary Our Sports Program gives campers the opportunity to stay active, build confidence, develop teamwork skills, and have fun through a variety of traditional field and court sports. Sports Specialists work directly with campers ages 7-13 teaching skills, organizing games, encouraging participation, and helping create a positive and inclusive environment. This is a hands-on role that combines instruction, mentorship, and residential camp life. Sports Specialists live with campers in a tent group and help support the overall camper experience throughout the summer. Job Responsibilities Leading and assisting sports activities including soccer, hockey, basketball, dodgeball, and other traditional camp sports Teaching campers sportsmanship, teamwork, and foundational athletic skills Organizing drills, games, and tournaments for campers of varying skill levels Managing and maintaining sports equipment and athletic spaces Encouraging camper participation and engagement in activities Assisting with intercamp games and special events when applicable Helping create a safe, supportive, and positive environment for campers Living in a tent group with campers and participating in the residential camp community Working collaboratively with fellow staff members across all camp programs Qualifications Experience playing, coaching, or teaching sports Experience working with children preferred Strong communication and interpersonal skills Positive attitude and ability to work as part of a team Ability to work flexible hours in a residential camp settingPay:
