Job Description
The LightEn Center of Consciousness & Action (LCCA) is a new 500-acre retreat center in the Blue Ridge mountains in Marshall, North Carolina. LCCA will serve as a soul-focused sanctuary and learning center for individual and collective growth, exploration and transformation, focused on catalyzing the evolution of consciousness needed to solve humanity's greatest challenges. The Center will host current and emerging leaders to cultivate and deepen the inner work needed to be more effective change agents in the world. LCCA is the home of LightEn US, which is part of the overall LightEn network. The center features five teaching spaces, event hall, dining hall, auditorium, spa and fitness center, reception building, administrative building, horticulture complex and 76 guest cabins. Currently there are about 40 LCCA team members. In addition to the core competencies outlined below, the right candidate will have resonance with LightEn's vision, be flexible, have the desire to learn, maintain a willingness to contribute when needed, and an ability to lead from a place of inclusiveness, kindness, and service.
OVERVIEW
We are seeking dedicated Safety Stewards for overnight shifts to ensure the safety of all guests and team members. Working closely with the Director of Campus & Wilderness Safety and Lead Safety Steward, the safety team supports guests and staff alike in having safe experiences on campus. The ideal candidate maintains a grounded, compassionate presence and can hold both professional standards and warm hospitality. You love nature, care deeply about people's well-being, and are comfortable blending service, awareness, and adaptability. The overnight shift is 11pm-7am.JOB PURPOSE
This role will be responsible for responding to a wide range of potential situations, from trail injuries to wildlife, workplace safety best practices to fire and inclement weather preparedness to first aid response and risk mitigation for the entire property. The ideal candidate is conscientious, forward-thinking, holds wilderness first aid certification, has a familiarity and comfort with the landscape and native plants and wildlife, upholds the highest standards of confidentiality, and cares deeply about building relationships and serving as a steward of the land. All team members are expected to model LightEn's approach and values of reflection, collaboration, and soul-infused action and are encouraged and supported to do so throughout their own practices. Specific job responsibilities include but are not limited to: Ensure the overall safety of all guests and team members. Uphold and support all safety protocols and procedures including inclement weather and fire response. First responder for all medical emergencies (staff and guests) on campus as well as any wilderness injuries. Support search and location efforts for lost or injured hikers, and help ensure trail systems are safely maintained, monitored, and responsive to changing environmental conditions. Complete required documentation and pos-incident evaluations in alignment with organization and compliance standards. Work in close and ongoing collaboration with the Land Team—particularly the Pathways & Forest Care Team—to proactively prevent and manage wildfire risk. Support facilitation of staff training, as needed so that all team members are aware of "what to do when" and can meaningfully support incident response and adhere to safety best practices campus-wide. Perform routine inspections including campus wide checks of all areas to ensure safety, and report back to the maintenance team or land teams, as needed. Build meaningful relationships across the organization to ensure the safety team has a deep understanding of all activities on campus, and strong communication and feedback loops with colleagues. Provide warm and welcoming interactions with guests and team members, leading with a sense of humility and kindness. Create conditions that ensure a safe, supportive, and calm environment for all. Actively engage in daily walks on and around campus, up/down hills, through trails to ensure the property is securely maintained. Promote and model Leave No Trace principles. Assist with equipment moves on property when requested. Report any environmental or wildlife concerns to the Safety Lead. Share observations, patterns, and guest feedback for continuous improvement.SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
High integrity and discernment. Proactive communicator with ability to make quick judgement calls when required. Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet business demands, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Warm, approachable demeanor with strong interpersonal skills. Ability to remain calm, present, and focused in busy or emergent situations. Valid driver's license. Basic physical fitness to navigate varied terrain. Wilderness experience, land navigation skills (map, compass, GPS), and familiarity with mountain environments. Certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED (or willingness to obtain). Background in guest services, hospitality, outdoor education, or community safety, preferred. Experience in nature-based or wellness retreat environments, a plus.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE ROLE
Stand for extended periods of time. Actively engage in extensive walking on and around campus, up/down hills, through trails in all weather conditions. Climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or smell. Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Team members must wear LCCA provided uniforms and maintain a neat appearance while on duty. The hourly rate for this role is $25 per hour. This role is currently short-term contract, and is not eligible for benefits. Anticipated contract length is 60-days.APPLY:
