Familiar with the use of: office equipment, (i.e. photocopy machines, laminators, etc.), technology (i.e. laptops, chromebooks, etc.), computer programs (i.e. google chrome, zoom, word, etc.), any adaptive equipment (i.e. auditory trainers, walkers, etc.)Environment:
90% indoors; 10% outdoors; (remote learning if needed) (i.e. bus/recess supervision, field trips, drills, etc.)Physical Activity Requirements:
Walking, climbing stairs multiple times a day, standing for periods of time (i.e. length of duties/supervision), Lifting/carrying up to 10 lbs. is occasionally required if no medical restrictions apply. Only if certified in Crisis Prevention Intervention, will educational assistants be required to assist other certified staff in physically restraining a disruptive student. In particular circumstances with some students, Title I Paraprofessionals may be required to assist other staff in `two-person ' lifts (for example, to assist transferring a student in or out of a wheelchair). In those instances, the Title I Paraprofessionals shall receive training in proper lifting procedures. No untrainedTitle I Paraprofessionals shall be required to assist in a lift.Job Description:
A Title I Paraprofessionals will work with small groups of students in reading and/or math under the guidance of a supervisor with a NH teaching certification who will plan, direct and support within the Title I program of interventions to help students achieve their academic, social and/or emotional potential. Title I Paraprofessionals may work in a school wide or targeted assistance program. This position is contingent on Title I funding each year. Title I Paraprofessionals must provide their own transportation and will be assigned responsibilities by Title I Supervising Interventionist in the fall. Program changes may necessitate changes in responsibilities as well as some partial day assignments at different schools.Essential Functions:
Working collaboratively with the Title I Educational Supervising Interventionist, Title I Paraprofessionals will:- Ensure safety of students.
- Perform all assigned duties according to the policies, rules, and regulation of Berlin Public Schools and the NH Department of Education.
- Become familiar with a wide variety of reading and math materials and their use.
- Provide interventions and support to children in small groups daily or several times per week.
- Confer with the Title I Educational Supervising Interventionist regarding coordination and progress of support in place for accelerating learning.
- Maintain daily records of lessons and required record keeping.
- Assist with the preparation of instructional materials
- Follow district policies for discipline issues.
- Assist with the supervision of students on the playground in the lunchroom, during the bus duties and/or on field trips during working hours.
- Assist with assessment through administration and/or supervision of students.
- Observe confidentiality of privileged information at all times. He or she will respect confidential information pertaining to the school and students. Respect "Need to Know".
- Attend all mandatory meetings and training programs during working hours.
- Participate in the Districts'professional development plan.
- Serve as a positive role model for students and colleagues through the demonstration of responsibility, citizenship, respect, and courtesy.
- Title I Paraprofessionals are NOT to transport students in their private vehicles.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).
Guiding Principles:
- Classroom teachers are ultimately responsible for the students' instruction and assessments.
- Title I staff provide supplemental support to close gaps through acceleration of learning and/or extended practice time in skill acquisition and conceptual understandings in order for students to minimize the range of abilities within a grade level and/or classroom setting.
- Title I staff may administer additional assessments/observations/data to further refine and identify specific information to support intervention work and coordinate this process with grade level classroom teachers.
- Title I Paraprofessionals may be utilized in various ways to support students such as, but not limited to: ○ Sessions with 1:1 ratio and/or a small group. ○ Sessions lasting 5 minutes to 30 minutes. ○ Sessions occurring 1 time-5 times per week. ○ Sessions structured as a pull-out or a push-in model.
- Title I Paraprofessionals will not be responsible for direct evaluation such as preparing and marking exams except those assessments that are prepared and administered as part of the intervention program for screening, placement, progress monitoring or discharge.
- Communication with parents of students receiving Tier 2 Title I interventions shall be through the classroom teacher, Title I Supervising Interventionists or the Title I Director.
- Title I Paraprofessionals have the authority to administer appropriate disciplinary measures in regard to unacceptable behavior within and outside of the classroom.
Working Hours:
The Title I Director will issue a letter notifying Title I Paraprofessionals as to their working hours. Any work they may volunteer outside their time frame is on their own time. The Title I Director or the Superintendent may occasionally designate a required training or meeting outside of normal working hours. If this occurs, Title I Paraprofessionals will be paid at their hourly rate. Optional training or PD events will not be paid but will allow staff to acquire clock hours. We are required by State Labor Laws to provide a duty free lunch break (unpaid) for ALL Title I Paraprofessionals who work a full school day. As a result, they will need to be scheduled for a 30 minute lunch break. Title I Paraprofessionals are "on the clock" the remainder of the time and are expected to be performing duties outlined during that time.Position Type:
