Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
The Park Maintenance Worker I is responsible for the general maintenance and cleaning in an assigned city park or area. Duties include assisting in the daily routine maintenance of parks, athletic fields, golf course, and park facilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
West Pines Maintenance Collects and disposes of trash and debris on City park and golf course property, including daily course setup areas, cart paths, and common use facilities. Mows grass, picks up leaves, and assists with snow removal as season dictates; performs routine turf maintenance on golf course greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and natural areas to ensure safe, professional playing conditions for daily play and tournaments. Performs general golf course setup for daily play, including changing pin and cup locations, repositioning tee markers, blowing debris from playing surfaces, and preparing bunkers and greens prior to play. Utilizes hand tools, power tools, and motorized equipment to perform maintenance duties throughout all City parks, athletic fields, and the golf course, including mowers, blowers, trimmers, bunker rakes, edgers, utility vehicles, and light construction equipment. Maintains athletic fields, tennis courts, and basketball courts within the Parks Department, including mowing, edging, debris removal, and surface upkeep. Assists with irrigation repairs and maintenance at athletic fields and the golf course, including hand watering, clearing and trimming around sprinkler heads, and reporting system issues. Maintains playground equipment and park amenities in all City parks, reporting safety concerns and performing minor repairs as assigned. Performs forestry and landscape support work as needed, including tree trimming and removal, weed control, bed edging, mulching, sod placement, and seasonal grounds projects. Conducts janitorial duties in park and golf course facilities, including wiping down tables, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning interior windows, restrooms, and replenishing paper supplies. Monitors hallways, facilities, and grounds to ensure cleanliness, safety, and security; reports maintenance or safety issues requiring repair. Acts as a liaison for ongoing activities occurring within park and golf course facilities, providing basic assistance and coordination as needed. Sets up and breaks down meeting rooms, studios, ballrooms, and event spaces for scheduled programs, tournaments, and special events. Provides additional operational support for park maintenance staff, recreation assistants, and management, including assisting with special projects, seasonal demands, and tournament preparation. Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSE, AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a valid Georgia Driver's License.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of materials commonly used in construction, maintenance and repair activities as related to assigned areas; Knowledge of, or ability to learn, standard cleaning methods, turfgrass maintenance practices. and operation of equipment used in park maintenance. Ability to use simple hand tools; Ability to operate trucks and other maintenance equipment such as mowers, chain saws, hedge trimmers, paint spray gun, hand tools, chalker for ball parks, and hand and power saws; Ability to follow written and/or verbal job assignments and/or crew assignments; Ability to obtain a valid CDL license with proper endorsements as required or necessary; Ability to perform routine, repetitive tasks on a continuous basis; Ability to exert continuous physical effort including frequent bending, walking, manipulating and heavy lifting of equipment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work requires prolonged standing and walking; frequent bending, crouching, kneeling, climbing, and reaching; pushing and pulling; and regular use of hands and arms for grasping, handling, and operating tools and equipment. The work includes heavy physical exertion, requiring the employee to lift, carry, and maneuver materials, supplies, and equipment of varying weights. The employee must possess sufficient visual, hearing, and speaking abilities to safely perform assigned tasks and communicate effectively. The position frequently requires the use of tools and equipment demanding manual dexterity and coordination.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed outdoors and in park facilities, where the employee is exposed to varying weather conditions, uneven terrain, noise, dust, and the operation of motorized and hand-powered equipment. Duties may also be performed indoors during custodial or facility maintenance activities. The work environment requires adherence to established safety practices and the use of appropriate protective equipment as necessary.
