Parking Enforcement Monitor

Job Description This is a basic enforcement position responsible for the issuance of parking citations within the Town of Bel Air and the collection of money from parking meters and machines. Work in this class requires the exercise of judgement in the application of the Town Parking Ordinance. An employee in this class is responsible and accountable to the Administrative Sergeant.

Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday, from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, occasional evening and weekend work is required. Must be a high school graduate or be in possession of a General Education Development (GED) Certificate. Must possess a valid Maryland Driver's License with no more than three (3) current points.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Ability to work independently in the absence of specific instructions or supervision. This individual must be knowledgeable of the Town's Parking Regulations and take appropriate measures to cite any violations. Assists visitors and citizens of Bel Air by providing general information regarding the location of events and directions to specific buildings in and around the town. Collects money in the form of cash and must follow all internal procedures for depositing funds. Performs duties of crossing guard. This involves directing the flow of moving traffic. Maintain an effective balance between Crossing Guard and Park Enforcement responsibilities. Transmits messages and materials from persons or places to assist in the smooth operation of the department.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Requires the ability to analyze situations quickly, unemotionally, and objectively to determine the proper course of action. Must have the ability to communicate with the public and tactfully handle complaints. Requires the ability to write and speak effectively to maintain records and prepare testimony for court presentation. Must be willing and able to testify in Maryland Courts relating to the issuance of parking violations. Requires ability to carry containers of coins weighing up to thirty (30) pounds. Requires good color perception to observe and site parking violations. Must have the ability to walk several miles during the course of duty assignment to effectively maintain enforcement of the parking regulations. Duties will require working in varied conditions of weather and terrain.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School Graduate or General Education Development (GED) Certificate Must possess a valid Maryland Driver's License with no more than three (3) current points. Ability to hear, see, walk steps, bend, kneel, lift, move, and carry items +/- 30 lbs.
