Job Description

Position Summary:
The Parking Enforcement Officer is responsible for conducting field inspections, issuing citations, and responding to complaints related to parking violations for the City of Anna Maria (City). Work involves issuing parking tickets, performing code enforcement inspections, investigating complaints, and maintaining accurate records.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Patrols designated areas to enforce parking regulations and City ordinances
  • Issues parking citations; documents violations using proper procedures
  • Assists with responding to complaints and field observations to parking enforcement and related ordinance concerns
  • Conducts field inspections and follow-up visits to ensure compliance and resolve outstanding violations
  • Maintains detailed and accurate records of inspections, violations, citations, and interactions
  • Communicates effectively with property owners, residents, business owners, and visitors to explain code requirements and resolve issues
  • Operates City-issued vehicles, handheld citation devices, radios, and related enforcement equipment safely and responsibly
  • Works collaboratively with other code and parking enforcement staff
  • Assists during special events, peak tourism periods, or in response to emergencies that require an enforcement presence
  • Performs daily responsibilities in a professional, courteous, and impartial manner
  • Adheres to all City safety procedures and reporting protocols
  • Provides parking enforcement support during periods of high visitor activity, weekends, holidays, and special events This list is not intended to be all-inclusive, and you may not be responsible for every item listed.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience in parking enforcement, code enforcement, security, customer service, hospitality, public interaction, or related field preferred
  • OR a combination of experience, certification, education and training that demonstrates expertise in the related areas
  • Valid Florida driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Parking Enforcement Certification (or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire)
Preferred Qualifications:
    None Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Knowledge of applicable local codes or ordinances
    • Knowledge of clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records and other office procedures
    • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook and Excel) and applicable department and organization specific software and ability to learn and become proficient in the use of other specialized software as may be required
    • Ability to de-escalate situations and maintain a calm, professional demeanor
    • Ability to remain calm and professional during difficult or confrontational interactions
    • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
    • Ability to review, compile and organize forms, documents and related records for efficient processing and ready retrieval
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities to ensure that deadlines are met
    • Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a service-oriented team
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive materials and information
    • Ability to work independently and outdoors in various weather conditions
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, residents, visitors, and the public
    • Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance to ensure efficient and effective performance of job duties
    Work Environment & Physical Demands:
    • Work is typically performed outdoors in a coastal environment with frequent exposure to heat, humidity, rain, strong sun, and wind.
    • Exposure to loud noise, dust, sand, fumes, pollen, and traffic is common.
    • May occasionally work near moving mechanical parts or in high-traffic areas.
    • Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, kneeling, and climbing.
    • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
    • Must be able to work for extended periods in physically demanding conditions.
    • Employees may be required to work weekends, evenings, and holidays, depending on assignments.
    Special Requirements Emergency Response Status:
    As a condition of employment, City of Anna Maria employees may be required to work as directed during an undeclared and/or a declared emergency. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the official job description.
