Job Description

Nature of Work This position is responsible for performing a variety of entry-level duties related to the installation, maintenance and repair related to Town parks, trails, sidewalks, and general facilities as assigned. Responsible for the collection and data tracking of recycling, compost, and trash from all Town-owned public collection receptacles and Town facilities. This position is expected to work approximately 20 hours per week. Supervision Received Receives direct supervision from the Parks Supervisor or Manager. May receive guidance and direction from Lead Parks Operator or Senior Operator. Supervision Exercised This is not a supervisory position. Essential Duties The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive:
Parks, Cemetery and Facilities:
1. Performs construction and/or maintenance work associated with Town parks and facilities. 2. Performs the installation of park equipment and other amenities such as benches, tables, trash cans, etc. 3. Performs duties as assigned, including but not limited to turf and landscape maintenance, landscape construction, irrigation, playground repair and maintenance, mowing, trail maintenance, horticulture, arboriculture, snow removal, and other operations as required to protect and enhance the Town's parks and recreation facilities. 4. As assigned, assists with the Ice Rink/Tennis Park maintenance, including operation of Ice Rink equipment (Zamboni). 5. Cleans, maintains, and makes repairs to all Town-owned properties and buildings, including but not limited to removing trash and recycling, sweeping, mopping, wiping down furniture and equipment, maintaining HVAC, etc. 6. Documents all maintenance and repair activities. Performs other duties as required. 7. Operates a variety of tools and vehicles such as chain saws, trucks, and other power and hand tools; operates light equipment such as tractors and riding mowers.
Trails and Sidewalk Maintenance:
1. Responsible for sidewalk and trail maintenance throughout Town, which may include shoveling, sweeping, weeding, cement patching, sanding, and modifying drainage associated with sidewalks. 2. Adds crusher fines and repairs trail surface when needed.
Recycling/Compost/Trash:
1. Responsible for checking and collecting recycling, trash, and compost materials from all public bear boxes around Town and Town facilities (i.e., Community Center). 2. Weighs collected materials at the Public Works shop, documents on a data sheet, and submits weekly to the Parks Manager. 3. Washes bear boxes/inner cans and installs/replaces bear cans as needed in coordination with the Parks crew. Other Duties 1. Performs periodic inspections of all grounds to ensure proper maintenance. 2. Keeps track of supplies at various facilities. 3. May assist in locating, preparing, and securing graves. 4. May be tasked with small construction projects. 5. May operate heavy equipment on occasion. Will be cross trained to perform a variety of street maintenance skills. 6. Maintains the sidewalk tractor and reports all issues to Supervisor. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Basic knowledge and/or ability to learn machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Knowledge of computer software applications to include Microsoft Office and other networked computer functions, including internet, email and social media sites. Ability to use maintenance equipment; understand oral and written instructions; and operate or receive training on various types of maintenance and construction equipment. Ability to read and follow instructional materials.
Ability to troubleshoot and repair:
determining causes of operating errors, deciding what to do about it, and repairing machines or systems using the needed tools. Ability to perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed. Ability to use a variety of construction and maintenance hand tools/power tools, operate light and heavy equipment, and drive a variety of vehicles. Ability to provide outstanding customer service and get along with coworkers, patrons, and supervisors and interact with employees and vendors in a professional manner. Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high-volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness within established organizational values, policies, and procedures. Ability to adjust the controls of a machine, equipment, or a vehicle to exact positions quickly and repeatedly. Ability to actively listen and communicate information and ideas in writing/verbally so others will understand. Must be able to work weekends, as necessary. Ability to perform physical tasks outdoors in a variety of climate conditions. Ability to perform a variety of manual labor, light construction, irrigation/sprinkler repairs. Ability to follow basic safety procedures and precautions. Ability to exercise good judgment based on previous experience to solve problems.
Education, Experience, and Formal Training Required Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Possess a valid Colorado Driver's License or ability to obtain upon hire and maintain an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications :
Experience related to parks, trails, sidewalks, or facility maintenance. Experience operating mowers and common hand/power tools, etc. Experience with small machinery or heavy equipment. Mechanical diagnosis and repair experience. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use physical exertion at all levels. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. The employee works closely with others, periodically working with office machinery (computers, printers, scanners, cellphones, and photocopiers). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in high, precarious places, in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles, blood pathogens, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, high wind conditions, and multiple hours of adverse weather, as well as occasional exposure to the risk of electrical shock, radiation, and vibration. The employee occasionally experiences hazards to personal safety. Periodically, the employee is in stressful situations. Employees are also required to operate vehicles and equipment (including road and utility/all-terrain vehicles, small tractors, backhoe, excavator, loader, and Zamboni as needed) for extended periods of time during routine operations.
