Position Summary:
Momence Community Unit School District 1 is seeking one Part-Time Bilingual Family Engagement Specialist & IEP Interpreter (Spanish) to support families and staff across Preschool for All (PFA), the district's Bilingual Education Program, and Special Education services. This position strengthens family engagement by providing parent education, outreach, interpretation, and translation services to ensure equitable access to district programs and information. The role also serves as a qualified interpreter for IEP meetings and other special education conferences, while supporting broader family engagement initiatives including Bilingual Parent Advisory Council (BPAC) and early childhood programming.
Qualifications:
Fluency in English and Spanish (speaking, reading, and writing) required Experience working with families in educational, early childhood, or community-based settings preferred Experience in interpretation and translation preferred Knowledge of or willingness to learn special education processes, including IEPs Must successfully complete Qualified Interpreter Training through the University of Illinois (U of I) Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships with diverse families and staff Strong organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills

Essential Job Functions and Key Responsibilities:
The Bilingual Family Engagement Specialist & IEP Interpreter performs duties in support of Preschool for All (PFA), Bilingual Education, and Special Education programs. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Provide family engagement and parent education support across PFA, bilingual education, and special education programs Assist families in understanding early childhood development, school readiness, attendance, early literacy, academic programming, and learning support strategies Support enrollment, transitions, and family engagement events across programs Conduct home visiting to support family engagement, strengthen school-to-home connections, and assist families in accessing district services and resources Provide bilingual (Spanish/English) interpretation and translation for meetings, school events, written communications, and outreach efforts Ensure Spanish-speaking families have equitable access to district programs, services, and information Support communication and engagement efforts for the Bilingual Education Program and BPAC meetings and activities Provide accurate interpretation during IEP meetings, eligibility meetings, and other special education conferences Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions and interpretation services Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and special education staff to support student success Attend meetings, trainings, and professional development as required Perform other related duties as assigned to support effective family engagement and communication within MCUSD #1
Terms of Employment:
Part-time position: 20 hours per week Monday through Friday availability required Work schedule is aligned with the school day across Preschool for All (PFA), Bilingual Education, and Special Education programs Occasional evening commitments for BPAC meetings, family workshops, or school events (additional hourly pay provided for evening assignments) Hourly rate: $16.00 per hour
