NORTH POLK COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT
Job Title:
Part-time Early Childhood Special Education Paraeducator (4.5 hours per day)
Reports To:
Building Principal or Dean of Students

Basic Function:
To assist students in achieving teaching objectives and meeting IEP goals of individual students or small groups of students. Utilizes resources and guidance provided to reinforce learning and monitor progress.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in the implementation and monitoring of students' Individual Education Plans (IEP). Follow behavior management plans for individual students. Reinforce skills taught by the teacher. Prepare and organize instructional materials and equipment. Assisting in the physical and intellectual development of students. Supporting a safe, positive teaching and learning environment. Assist in implementing consistent behavior management strategies and procedures. Supervise lunchroom, playground, halls, classroom and other assigned areas. Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods and field trips. Supporting the social, emotional, and behavioral development of students. Establishing positive and productive relationships. Assist with nutrition and associated cleanup routines. Read to students, listen to students read and participate in other forms of oral communication with students. Communicating consistently with teachers, staff, and students. Assist with large group and small group activities. Guides independent work, enrichment work and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher. Supports Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) for all students in all settings. Escort students throughout the building. Perform clerical tasks such as filing, maintaining records, and assisting with reporting. Assist with the implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans. Support students who receive specialized transportation including escorting students on and off the bus and/or riding the bus with students. Perform personal care duties for students, as required by plans. Lift, carry and correctly position students with physical disabilities. Participating in meetings and professional learning opportunities, as appropriate. Maintain confidentiality. Collaborating with teachers, administrators, and other staff to ensure best practice and supports are in place for students. Demonstrating ethical and professional standards of conduct. Assist with other duties as assigned.
Specifications/Qualifications:
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. Interpersonal skills that exhibit friendliness, tact, patience and courtesy. Satisfactory written and verbal communication skills. Satisfactory organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills. Must be flexible and adaptable to meet the daily requirements of the position.
Physical Requirements:
Bending, carrying, climbing, driving, lifting, pushing-pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, walking. Includes extremes of temperature and humidity. Hazards include stairs and communicable diseases.
