Job Description
Position SummaryThe Fuel Attendant & Customer Service Representative supports the day-to-day operations of the store and fueling station. This position ensures the safe and efficient operation of fuel dispensing, assists customers both inside and outside the store, and maintains a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. The role combines excellent customer service, fueling assistance, and adherence to company safety and operational standards.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching throughout the shiftAbility to lift, carry, and move items up to 50 poundsExposure to outdoor weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rainRegular exposure to fuel fumes and cleaning chemicals (PPE provided)Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidaysMust be able to communicate clearly in person and over the phone
Responsibilities and Duties:
Customer Service & SalesGreet all customers promptly and professionally, providing a welcoming and positive experience (Welcome to H&S / Welcome to Chevron)Deliver efficient, friendly, and accurate service at checkout and during fueling interactions Communicate promotions, loyalty programs, and product recommendations to customersProvide assistance with fueling, propane dispensing, and other customer needsHandle customer inquiries or concerns and escalate to management as neededFueling Operations & SafetySafely operate fuel pumps and propane dispensers in compliance with all company, state, and federal safety regulationsVerify proper fuel types and pump markings to ensure accuracy and prevent contaminationMonitor fueling area for leaks, spills, or hazards; respond promptly and report any incidents to managementFollow all safety protocols, including emergency fuel shutoff proceduresMaintain required training and certifications related to fuel and propane handlingCash Handling & Register OperationsAccurately process cash, credit, and debit transactions through the Point of Sale (POS) systemPerform cash counts, safe drops, and drawer balancing per company policyVerify identification for restricted sales (alcohol, tobacco, lottery, or credit purchases)Ensure compliance with cash-handling and loss-prevention proceduresStore & Fueling Area MaintenanceKeep both the interior and exterior areas of the station clean and well-maintainedMaintain fuel island supplies including squeegees, paper towels, and windshield cleanerClean and restock self-serve beverage and food stations, ensuring freshness and qualityEmpty trash receptacles, sweep pump areas, and maintain restrooms and entrywaysReport maintenance issues, pump malfunctions, or safety hazards immediatelyTeamwork & Operational SupportCollaborate with team members to achieve store goals and maintain smooth operationsAssist with deliveries, stocking, and merchandise rotationSupport special projects or promotions as assigned by managementFollow all company policies, procedures, and operational standardsEducation and Work ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent preferredPrevious experience in retail, fuel service, or customer service environment preferredBasic understanding of fuel safety and compliance procedures preferredAbility to complete propane training (as required by state/local regulation)Skill SetStrong customer service and communication skillsSafety-focused mindset with attention to detailAbility to multitask and maintain organization in a fast-paced environmentDependable, self-motivated, and able to follow directionBasic computer and POS system proficiencyAbility to learn and apply fueling and safety proceduresTeam-oriented attitude with flexibility for various dutiesPhysical Demands and Work Environment The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
