Open Until Filled Position Summary:

A semi-skilled laborer's position responsible for working on City water, sewer, and other utility construction and maintenance projects, by transferring from one task to another, where demands require workers with varied experience and ability to work with close supervision by performing the following duties.

Disaster/Emergency/Schedule/On Call/Rotating Shifts Expectations:

This position is considered an emergency/disaster position, which requires the employee be ready, willing, and able to report to work during emergencies and/or disasters of any kind, notwithstanding any other commitments the employee may have Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. ¨ Measures distances from grade stakes, drives stakes, and stretches tight line. ¨ Operates medium and light-duty equipment and/or machinery as needed in order to carry out assigned tasks and duties. Such machinery includes, but is not limited to: o Saw o Jack hammer o Chipper o Jack bore o Compactor o Air compressor ¨ Performs routine light and preventive maintenance on machinery and equipment. ¨ Performs manual laboring tasks, including digging, lifting, pushing, etc. ¨ Repairs broken water and sewer lines, by laying pipe, installing meters, operating pipe locator, and other associated duties. ¨ Installs sewer taps and repairs toilets, sinks, and other plumbing appliances. ¨ Cuts and trims trees. ¨ Works on-call shift when scheduled. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities ¨ Knowledge of the effective operation of light and medium equipment; of the hazards involved in using such equipment, and the safety precautions to be taken. ¨ Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations, and of effective precautionary measures necessary to avoid accidents. ¨ Knowledge of water and sewer systems, and their construction and maintenance. ¨ Ability to understand and carry out general instructions, oral and written, relating to construction and maintenance operations. ¨ Ability to carry out the strenuous laboring tasks, under varying weather conditions, including digging, lifting, pushing, etc. ¨ Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction diagrams. ¨ Skill in the operation of light and medium construction equipment.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or equivalency certificate is required.

Certificates and Licenses:

v Must be in possession of a valid Florida driver's license. v Water Distribution System Operator Maintenance Certificate and Class "3" Distribution Systems Operator License is preferred but not required.

Reasoning Ability:

¨ Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. ¨ Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in non-standardized situations.
