Sun Life Marinas Job Overview Reporting to the Marina General Manager, the Parts Manager plays a critical role in supporting the service and maintenance operations at Schooner Island Marina. This position is responsible for sourcing, ordering, receiving, and managing all marine parts and accessories inventory, ensuring that technicians and service staff have the parts they need to deliver timely and high-quality work to our customers. Responsibilities Parts Procurement & Ordering Source and order marine parts, accessories, and supplies from approved vendors and distributors in a timely and cost-effective manner. Obtain competitive pricing and maintain relationships with key suppliers to ensure availability and favorable terms. Process purchase orders accurately and track orders from placement through receipt. Expedite orders as needed to minimize service delays and downtime. Inventory Management Maintain accurate inventory records using marina management or point-of-sale software. Conduct regular cycle counts and periodic physical inventories to ensure accuracy. Monitor stock levels and establish reorder points to prevent shortages of critical parts. Organize and maintain the parts room and storage areas in a clean, safe, and efficient manner. Identify and manage obsolete or slow-moving inventory to optimize stock value. Service Department Support Collaborate closely with service technicians, the Service Writer, and the Service Manager to fulfill parts requests efficiently. Pull parts for open work orders and ensure accurate charge-out to each job. Communicate parts availability, lead times, and substitutions clearly to the service team. Assist in researching parts specifications, OEM numbers, and compatibility as needed. Customer Service Assist retail customers with parts inquiries, special orders, and over-the-counter sales. Provide knowledgeable recommendations on marine parts, accessories, and related products. Process customer transactions accurately using point-of-sale systems in accordance with established financial procedures. Handle customer concerns professionally and escalate as appropriate. Financial & Administrative Reconcile parts invoices against purchase orders and coordinate with the Office Manager/Bookkeeper on accounts payable. Track parts costs and margins, providing reporting to the Marina General Manager as requested. Maintain organized records of purchase orders, vendor correspondence, and warranty claims. Process core returns and warranty parts in accordance with vendor policies. Perform additional tasks and fulfill responsibilities as assigned, recognizing that this list is not exhaustive and may not encompass all the duties required for the role. Qualifications Previous experience in a marine, powersports, automotive, or recreational parts department is strongly preferred. Familiarity with marine engines, outboards, sterndrives, and related systems is a significant advantage. Strong organizational and inventory management skills with high attention to detail. Proficiency with parts management, point-of-sale, or marina management software; experience with systems such as Dockmaster, MarineMax, or similar platforms is a plus. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with vendors, service staff, and customers. Basic knowledge of financial transactions including purchase orders, invoicing, and reconciliation. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, seasonal environment. Availability for weekend and holiday shifts is essential to meet the operational needs of the marina, often dictated by boating season and customer activity. Lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally, including parts shipments, equipment, and supplies.Mobility:
Stand, walk, and navigate the parts room, service department, docks, and marina facilities for extended periods.Manual Dexterity:
Use hands and fingers for parts handling, computer operation, and point-of-sale transactions.Visual Acuity:
Read part numbers, labels, and documentation, and work with computer screens in varying lighting conditions.Hearing:
Communicate effectively with technicians, customers, and vendors in an active service and marina environment.Working Inside:
Perform the majority of duties within the parts room, service office, or shop setting.Outdoor Exposure:
