PCA Req #1677 Cooley Dickinson Hospital, 30 Locust St, Northampton, Massachusetts, United States of America Apply Share Job Description Posted Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 12:00 AM Position Summary The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) provides compassionate, high-quality direct patient care under the supervision of licensed nursing staff. The PCA supports patient safety, comfort, and daily care needs while helping maintain a positive patient experience and efficient clinical environment.
Responsibilities:
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, feeding, and mobility
- Obtain and document vital signs, intake/output, and other routine patient information accurately and timely
- Perform glucose monitoring and bladder scans and report results to RN
- Respond promptly to patient call lights and requests for assistance
- Support safe patient transfers, repositioning, and ambulation using proper body mechanics and equipment
- Maintain patient rooms in a clean, organized, and safe condition
- Observe patients and report changes in condition, behavior, or safety concerns to nursing staff immediately
- Assist with admissions, discharges, and patient transport as needed
- Provide emotional support and compassionate care to patients and families
- Follow infection prevention, safety, HIPAA, and hospital policies and procedures
- Assist RNs and physicians with other exams and treatments as required
Qualifications:
Years of Experience:
1-3 years previous healthcare, hospital or long-term care experienceLanguage Skills:
Proficient in English both verbally and writtenPreferred Education Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent - CNA certification preferredRequirements :
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment
- Compassionate, patient-focused approach to care
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
- Strong teamwork and time management skills
- Ability to safely lift, move, and assist patients throughout the shift
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and repositioning patients
