PCA Req #1677 Cooley Dickinson Hospital, 30 Locust St, Northampton, Massachusetts, United States of America Apply Share Job Description Posted Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 12:00 AM Position Summary The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) provides compassionate, high-quality direct patient care under the supervision of licensed nursing staff. The PCA supports patient safety, comfort, and daily care needs while helping maintain a positive patient experience and efficient clinical environment.

Responsibilities:

• Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, feeding, and mobility
• Obtain and document vital signs, intake/output, and other routine patient information accurately and timely
• Perform glucose monitoring and bladder scans and report results to RN
• Respond promptly to patient call lights and requests for assistance
• Support safe patient transfers, repositioning, and ambulation using proper body mechanics and equipment
• Maintain patient rooms in a clean, organized, and safe condition
• Observe patients and report changes in condition, behavior, or safety concerns to nursing staff immediately
• Assist with admissions, discharges, and patient transport as needed
• Provide emotional support and compassionate care to patients and families
• Follow infection prevention, safety, HIPAA, and hospital policies and procedures
• Assist RNs and physicians with other exams and treatments as required

Qualifications:

Years of Experience:

1-3 years previous healthcare, hospital or long-term care experience

Language Skills:

Proficient in English both verbally and written

Preferred Education Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent - CNA certification preferred

• Strong teamwork and time management skills
• Ability to safely lift, move, and assist patients throughout the shift
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and repositioning patients
