Pediatrics - Advance Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)
Department:
Sulphur Springs Reports to: Delegating physician and
Chief Medical Officer Purpose of Position:
The Pediatrics APRN works as part of the clinic provider team performing a variety of direct patient services including assessment, diagnosis, implementation of treatment, evaluation, and monitors the general patient management plan for clinic patients. The APRN performs these functions under the general supervision of a licensed physician in a primary health care setting and inpatient facility and functions as a member of the multi-disciplinary health care team within the scope of his or her practice.
Essential Functions:
Patient Relations  Obtains complete medical history from patient.  Prescribes medications under the delegations of the supervising physician according to therapeutic goals, explains treatment to patients and families in accordance with TSBME and TSBNE regulations.  Teaches and counsels patients and families. Staff Relations/ Team Building  Consults with physicians and other member of the health care team as necessary.  Performs other necessary duties as required by the health center to meet the goal of providing primary health care services.  Provides leadership and education for clinic staff. Clinical Duties  Performs complete physical examinations on patients, including pelvic exams if needed  Orders routine and diagnostic lab and x-ray studies according to protocols.  Formulates a working diagnosis for acute and chronic illness on the basis of clinical findings, laboratory and x-ray reports and the results of other diagnostic procedures.  Initiates and monitors patient management plans for patients assigned using protocols or consultation with a supervising physician.  Refers patients requiring hospitalization or assessment and management of conditions to supervising physicians or appropriate specialist.  Renders emergency care and treatment including cardiopulmonary resuscitation, starting I-V fluids and medications. Administrative Duties  Consults with physicians and other staff members as necessary.  Complies with CHSA, state and federal policies, procedures, and standards. Performance Improvement Activities  Maintains all patient records to comply with required standards, review records regularly, and obtain physician counter signatures where necessary. Entries in the medical records will be legible and timely.  Attends all medical staff meetings and participates in the PI program. Safety/Infection Control Activities  Complies with OSHA and CLIA regulations. This job description shall include, but is not necessarily limited to, the above duties. May temporarily perform other duties as assigned to maintain operations and services. Qualifications  Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and an accredited APRN Program.  The ability to relate with effectiveness to patients and providers.  Must be qualified in Basic Life Support techniques.  Sufficient experience to carry out the duties of this position.  Texas license to practice as a registered nurse and an APRN.  Certification by the appropriate specialty board.
