All staff members are expected to uphold and represent this mission in their conduct and client interactions. Position Summary The Peer Counselor provides compassionate, one-on-one support to women who come to our center seeking guidance, resources, and encouragement during a critical and often vulnerable time. This role is central to Pregnancy Aid Detroit's direct service model — offering a consistent, caring presence that reflects our Christian values of dignity, respect, and hope. This is a non-clinical, peer support position. The Peer Counselor does not provide medical advice, interpret clinical results, or offer licensed counseling services. Comprehensive training is provided prior to all client-facing responsibilities. Key Responsibilities Client Support and Engagement Meet individually with women visiting the center to provide emotional support and encouragement Build trust through supportive, respectful, and non-judgmental conversation Listen actively, assess client needs, and connect clients to appropriate resources and referrals Provide encouragement consistent with the organization's Christian mission and pro-life values Pregnancy Testing & Ultrasound Support Guide clients through self-administered pregnancy tests according to center procedures Prepare clients for ultrasound appointments and provide reassuring, non-clinical support during procedures Clearly communicate that all medical results will be explained by qualified clinical staff Documentation & Recordkeeping Record detailed, accurate, and objective notes from client visits in the center's database Maintain complete, timely, and organized client records per center policy Resource & Referral Support Provide approved referral information consistent with center policies Share educational materials and resources aligned with the organization's mission Assist clients in accessing parenting education, community support, and material resources Boutique Assistance Help clients access clothing, baby items, and supplies through the center's boutique Follow established boutique guidelines (training on procedures provided) Maintain an orderly, welcoming boutique space Miscellaneous Assists with other duties as assigned. Qualifications (Required) Alignment with and commitment to the organization's Christian mission and pro-life values Compassionate, respectful demeanor with strong listening and interpersonal skills Emotional maturity and the ability to support clients in complex or sensitive situations Ability to document information accurately and objectively Basic computer skills Qualifications (Preferred) Experience in caregiving, ministry, social services, or client-facing volunteer roles Comfort discussing pregnancy, parenting, and life decisions with empathy and professionalism Ability to remain calm and steady in emotionally charged situations
