Standardized Patient Specialist

We are seeking our next Part-Time Standardized Patient Specialist who will be all-in on our mission and who will train to portray specific sets of health problems and symptoms that will aide students in learning the proper techniques and procedures for taking medical histories, performing medical examinations, determining diagnoses and learning appropriate ways to educate and inform patient diagnoses.

EDUCATION

:

Required:

High School Diploma or GED.

Preferred:

Associate's Degree or higher in Healthcare.

EXPERIENCE

:

Preferred:

Previous experience as a standardized patient or experience in health care. Attend training on patient specifications. Present specific types of symptoms as defined by a patient case. Study and memorize patient history of present illness, past medical history, physical exam results. Simulate a variety of clinical scenarios including a patient's appearance, demeanor and affect, communication style, chief complaint, symptomatology, patient medical history, and physical finding. Showcase interviewing techniques and skills with Health Sciences students in the simulation center. Instruct and practice interviewing and demonstrating superficial physical assessment skills with Health Sciences students. Give feedback after interviewing the student in-person verbally, written, or electronically. Evaluate and assess the student's skills. Perform other work-related duties as required. Salary:

Amarillo College follows a lag pay strategy, with starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade, rarely reaching the maximum to support long-term growth within each position. Pay grade 10 Amarillo College Pay Grades (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.

Working Conditions:

Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.)

Work Environment:

This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets) and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Colleague, and various other educational applications. Work may also be performed outside of the office and with little to no supervision.
