Position Summary:
We're seeking candidates that are well versed in the following dance expertise: Hip Hop Dance Latin Hip Hop Dance Jazz Dance Latin Jazz Dance Tap Dance Contemporary Dance Fusion & Contemporary Styles Modern Dance Ballroom Dance Zumba Under the direct supervision of the Creative Arts Administrative Supervisor and/or Director. The Dance instructor will be responsible for developing, participating in, and executing the day-to-day operations of the classroom. The Dance Instructor will encourage consumers and staff participation in all aspects of programming, including community integration activities, supervising assistants to ensure proper direction to individuals is given. Acute communication provided to all parties involved in the care and development of consumers.Job Responsibilities:
Develops a curriculum and timeline related to the professional development of participating consumers in the courses. o Ensures the semester lesson plans have been submitted and approved by the Creative Arts Supervisor 30 days before the start of each semester. o Create activities and projects using a variety of dance mediums that are interactive and appropriate for individuals. o Develops end of semester show case for each course and presents to professional partners. o Make schedules/coordinate with assistants to implement activities in the classroom and community with consistency, clarity and communicated in a timely fashion. o Have a firm understanding of the days agenda and follow assignments to ensure consistency. o Communicate classroom and community expectations to assistants and other parties as needed.- Provides training and direct supervision of consumers and staff in the dance course.
- Facilitates goals in partnership with the Program supervisors o Writing the Person-Centered Plans (PCP) for each assigned individual, as well as monthly reports including: o Quarterly, semi-annual, and annual reviews with excellent, professional writing skills and with the input of the individual's Circle of Support
- Ensure the lines of communication are open and concerns are addressed and followed up in a timely manner.
- Maintain a safe, clean, well
- stocked, and-organized classroom.
- Working as part of a larger team of instructors throughout program: o Take initiative to ensure program goals of all consumers are met. o Share ideas with other staff to promote creative positive workplace.
- Complete First Aid, CPR, Driving Training, Behavior Modification, and any other training that assigned prior to the training deadline/expiration dates. o Attend in-service training and staff meetings as scheduled and on time.
- Arrive to work prepared and on time. Follow the attendance and time off procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook. Partner with Human Resources as needed.
- Complete other duties as requested by the supervisor or Director.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in dance related field, Creative Arts Therapy, and/or two (2) years of skilled visual or performing arts experience; required
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with adults with developmental disabilities; required
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to seek help when needed.
- Communicate and work professionally and cooperatively with others; including staff and people supported especially during stressful situations.
- Successfully pass all post offer, pre-employment screening requirements, including criminal background check, physical exam, and provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
- Ability to demonstrate compassion and patience to a diverse consumer population.
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse cultures, education, social, and economic backgrounds.
- Ability to work in a team centered environment and accept feedback and direction.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and decision making.
- Ability to complete and pass basic exams after training.
- Maintain a valid CA driver's license with a driving record that is acceptable for TLC insurance coverage.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, or move various weight amounts ranging from ten (10) to fifty (50) pounds or more.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is primarily housed in an open air-conditioned classroom. Several times a week there are outside activities and community integration and therefore the working conditions are subject to weather elements, i.e. sun, wind, rain. Occasional driving of consumers is required including assisting them into and out of vehicle for community integration outings and supervising consumers' safety while in the community. Several times a week, there are swimming classes that require getting into an enclosed, heated swimming pool and/or Jacuzzi. This position can be moderately physical. There is frequent standing, bending, sitting for periods of time, and fast-paced walking. Assisting consumers in wheelchairs, with walkers, gait-belts that require pushing, supporting and guiding. Frequent lifting of weight that varies between 10-100 pounds. On occasion, consumers may become physical including but not limited to hitting, kicking, grabbing, and biting. Frequently, you are exposed to consumers' bodily fluids which can include saliva (drool), blood, urine, fecal matter. Stringent Universal Health Precautions are practiced.Note:
