PREMISE:

A tight-knit group of immigrants have been running a Ukrainian restaurant named BEETS in NYC for decades. But when a new American owner steps in, they must figure out how to protect their culture, and their sanity.

FORMAT:

Staged reading of 2-3 episodes (each episode runs at roughly 25 minutes) + a 15 minute talkback

20s, female-presenting a natural leader held back by her devotion to leading a geriatric choir

STEFAN:

20s, male-presenting a kind-hearted deer in headlights who mistakes an urn for a flower vase, triggeringplete chaos; the new hire at BEETS

BORYS:

30s, male-presenting a slightly panicked manager at BEETS who still asks everyone for permission to exist

GLIB:

30s, male-presenting a busser at BEETS who acts as if he runs the establishment; the most intense person in the room

MARK:

50s, male-presenting somehow placed in charge of BEETS after a very distant cousin's death; has big ideas with zero context; unapproachable and not understanding

MAMA:

50s, female-presenting an intelligent hardworking mother who wants nothing more than for ANNA to leave her role as leader of a senior citizen choir
