Job Description

Job Description The University of Arizona School of Music seeks a visionary and collaborative Director to lead its comprehensive music program through a time of opportunity and transformation. This leader will build on the School's strong foundations including award‑winning faculty, exceptional students, and deep community engagement to reimagine curriculum, strengthen academic programs, and advance the School's visibility regionally, nationally, and internationally. The Director will guide strategic innovation that prepares students for diverse professional musical careers, foster a culture of collaboration and inclusion, and work closely with faculty, students, staff, and external partners to expand partnerships, enhance creative work, and support interdisciplinary initiatives. The position requires academic leadership, commitment to excellence in performance, scholarship, and teaching, and a passion for shaping the future of higher education in music. Preferred and Required Qualifications Qualifications Minimum Qualifications An appropriate terminal degree or equivalent. A record of professional achievement sufficient for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. Demonstrated ability to inspire, unify, and lead a diverse academic community. Commitment to faculty, staff, and student development. Interest in building and sustaining strong external partnerships and advancing development initiatives. Preferred Qualifications Academic administrative experience aligned with the demands of the position. An established record of research, performance, creative practice, or leadership consistent with the School's mission. Experience with financial and organizational models in complex research institutions. Demonstrated success in securing support from a wide range of constituencies. Outstanding communication skills.
