Director of Choral Music Los Altos United Methodist Church - 5.0 Long Beach, CA Job Details Part-time $30 - $35 an hour 3 hours ago Qualifications Teamwork Management Fundraising Recruiting Leadership Full Job Description Los Altos United Methodist Church is seeking a qualified Director of Choral Music to lead and grow our choral music ministry in ways that strengthen worship, foster inclusion and community, and support the mission of the congregation. The Director of Choral Music will collaborate with clergy, musicians, and other worship leaders to support our blended worship life and our commitment to multiple musical expressions that inspire and engage people of all ages. Qualifications Excellence in choral music direction and music education A genuine love for people and an optimistic, positive spirit Proactive and organized planning/leadership style Experience with and appreciation for a wide range of church music genres and worship styles Experience and interest in encouraging connection with local community and university music programs Ability to collaborate creatively and collegially within a blended worship environment that incorporates multiple musical styles and worship leadership teams Specific Responsibilities Gives leadership to the development of the Sanctuary Choir (10:30 a.m. service); directs the Sanctuary Choir, including recruiting, coaching, motivating, shepherding, preparation, rehearsal, and coordination of additional musicians hired for special worship services and seasonal celebrations, including Christmas Eve, Holy Week, Easter, and other special events as needed. Selects music for services appropriate to worship themes and seasons; collaborates with the Lead Pastor, Worship Band Director, and other worship leaders in worship planning, music selection, and worship design, particularly for blended worship services. Supervises (with the Lead Pastor) the Collaborative Artist and works collegially and collaboratively with the other music staff, including the Worship Band Director, to help lead worship that reflects the congregation's commitment to multiple musical expressions and blended worship opportunities. Collaborates with the pastor, Collaborative Artist, and Worship Band on blended worship services. Supervises the four scholarship singers in the 10:30 a.m. service and helps encourage the development of the Scholarship Musician Program. Supports the ongoing development and sustainability of the church's music ministry and Scholarship Musician Program, including participation in Music Celebration Sunday and other fundraising, hospitality, or program support efforts as needed. Time and Hours 10 hours weekly at a starting hourly rate negotiated based on experience; weekly base hours are rated on a calculation of one hour of preparation for each hour of "face time" per week: currently 2 hours for Thursday rehearsal; 2 hours for Sunday; 1 hour of administrative teamwork (5 hours total + 5 hours preparation).
