Music & Artistic Development Assistant Director FLSA Status:
Exempt Reports to Music & Artistic Development Director Grade II ($47,920

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Write and transcribe musical scores applying elements of music theory to create musical and tonal structures, including harmonies and melodies. Collaborate with ministry leadership to serve as the music director during rehearsals and live performance of worship sets. Audition instrumentalists, train volunteers, assist with choir, and provide leadership support to the music program of the church. The incumbent must perform all job duties as outlined in this job description to support ongoing mission of the church while committed in accordance with the Baptist Faith and Message (2000 edition).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Score compositions so that they are consistent with instrumental and vocal capabilities such as ranges and keys, using knowledge of music theory. Build key tracks and instructional videos for weekend performances. (app. 25%) Perform as instrumentalist for weekend services, rehearsals, and other major events, (app. 25%) Build multi-tracks with Ableton to create the metronome (click-track) for the in-ear monitor, adding auxiliary instruments when needed. (app. 15%) Direct musicians during rehearsals and performances as assigned. Direct choir as assigned, including preparation, instruction, and performance. (app. 15%) Audition and train volunteer instrumentalists. (app. 10%) Assist with maintenance of all keyboard equipment. (app. 5%) Prepare for and attend weekly worship team meetings. (app. 5%) These duties are subject to change as church needs and strategies evolve. Employee may be required to perform other duties.
EDUCATION/TRAINING
Bachelor's degree in music preferred. College degree in Music Theory, Composition or equivalent field is preferred. Specialized training/classes in orchestrating and musical scoring is required.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 2-4 years as an Expert-level musician required. Minimum of 2-4 years in tracking and recording field is preferred. Minimum of 2-4 years of experience volunteering or working in worship ministry. Experience may be considered in lieu of education.

Proficient computer skills with an aptitude to learn new software. Ability to proficiently produce instrumental tracks through Ableton required. Stage presence and audience engagement skills. Active listening and improvisational skills required. Advanced Music Theory knowledge, with the ability to independently transcribe and adapt musical compositions. Knowledge of a wide variety of musical styles with the ability to assimilate and perform musical pieces with accurate pitch and rhythmic integrity. Knowledge of equipment maintenance. Ability to teach and train others, fostering a team environment and sense of unity among staff and volunteers, motivating, teaching, and training them through servant leadership. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: Ascend and descend stairs and/or ramps. Clearly communicate verbally with others to exchange information. Remain in a stationary position, often sitting/standing for prolonged periods. View and operate technological devices. Move self in different positions to accomplish tasks. Accomplish tasks, observe environment, and judge distances using near/far fields of vision and depth perception. Lift, carry, and move up to 35 pounds. Manual dexterity and the ability to reach at, below, and above shoulder level. Balance and coordination. Ability to sustain high energy levels throughout multiple services. Ability to effectively communicate throughout multiple services. Ability to hear cues and musical timings. Superior relative pitch and ability to distinguish complex harmonies by ear. Must possess the ability to work in environments with theatrical elements, including but not limited to strobing lights and fog.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position works primarily indoors. Occasional outdoor work may be required.
