MUSIC DIRECTOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Summer Camp:
July 6-9, 8:30-12:30pm (Camp time is 9am-12pm) July 9: Camp Concert 12:30-1:00pm
Fall Semester:
Tuesday evenings, 4:15-6:00pm (Rehearsal time is 4:30-5:45pm) Public Performance on Saturday 9/8 Public Performance on Saturday 11/15 •Potentially one other Public Saturday Performance in
October Semester Concert:
12/3, 4:00-7:00pm

Grace MidCity Baptist Church, 630 Richland Ave. Baton Rouge, LA 70806 1. Pre-Summer Camp Planning Coordination & Communication Collaborate with program leadership on: Camp goals and theme Daily schedule and logistics Assist with audition/placement process if applicable 2. Summer Camp Week Responsibilities Daily Rehearsals for Summer Camp Lead structured daily rehearsals Vocal warm-ups Technique instruction (breathing, tone, diction) Teaching music and harmonies Break students into sections as needed Adapt teaching style for different skill levels and ages Student Engagement & Development Foster a positive, encouraging environment Build confidence in young performers Manage behavior in a constructive, age-appropriate way Encourage teamwork and participation Performance Preparation Rehearse staging, movement, and transitions Prepare students for performance etiquette and confidence Conduct the final showcase performance 4. Weekly Rehearsals for Fall Semester (September-December) Rehearsal Planning & Execution Lead weekly rehearsals Warm-ups Vocal technique development Repertoire practice Track progress and adjust pacing as needed Introduce harmonies, dynamics, and musical expression Conduct musicianship club (15 minutes) after select rehearsals Skill Development Teach foundational music skills: Pitch matching Rhythm and timing Listening and blending Provide individual or small-group support when needed Communication Communicate with leadership Reinforce expectations with students (practice, focus, vocal pedagogy) 5. Performance Preparation (Ongoing + Event-Specific) Weekend Performances Select and prepare appropriate music for each event Rehearse performance-specific details (set length, transitions) Coordinate with event program staff Conduct / lead students during performances December Concert (Major Event) Lead rehearsals leading up to the concert Coordinate staging, entrances/exits, and flow Work with tech team (sound, mics, music tracks if needed) Conduct the final performance 6. Administrative & Collaboration Duties Attend planning meetings as needed Collaborate with: Artistic director, chorister coordinator, accompanist and other staff 7. Student Experience & Culture Create a safe, inclusive, and uplifting environment Encourage character development (confidence, discipline, teamwork) Celebrate student progress and achievements Build relationships with students while maintaining professionalism Record practice tracks for students Support parent communication (updates, reminders) Assist with implementation of service projects on rehearsal days Summary Lead a one-week youth music camp Direct weekly choir rehearsals (Sept-Dec) Teach music to children of varying skill levels Prepare students for multiple performances and a final concert Foster a positive, structured, and engaging learning environment

$1,200.00 per year
