New Horizons Chorus Director Description:
Groton Hill Music Center is the region's premier nonprofit center for outstanding music education, professional performances, andmunity engagement programs. We are seeking an experienced chorus conductor to lead and develop a daytime chorus for older adult singers. This will be a non-auditioned ensemble for singers looking to connect with others through the joy of music, with a focus on developing healthy singing habits using familiar and beloved repertoire from sources like the Great American Song Book and the American folk revival.
PRIMARY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
The New Horizons Chorus Director will help to build this new and exciting program at Groton Hill. The ability to inspire and instruct older students while demonstrating strong vocal technique is required. Piano or guitar skills for rehearsals are required. If t is sufficient enrollment, t is the possibility of having a staff apanist for the ensemble. Teaching a group class or private lessons at Groton Hill is also a possibility, depending on mutual interest.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should have a degree in music, as well as relevant teaching and/or choral direction experience. Candidates must have a working knowledge of appropriate literature for singers ages 50+ and the proven ability to lead a program built upon that material. Candidates must be able to demonstrate effective and efficient classroom/rehearsal technique, a high level of on-stage conductingpetence, andfort in addressing an audience from the stage. The proposed rehearsal schedule for this ensemble would be Tuesday mornings from 10:30-11:30am. This role also has considerable room for growth by way of building ensembles, events, and a culture of excitement around vocal and choral performance at Groton Hill Music. Teaching private voice lessons at Groton Hill is also a possibility, depending on mutual interest. Groton Hill Music faculty members are responsible for: 1) inspiring and sharing their love of music with their students; 2) setting a high bar for students' levels of technical skill and musicality; 3) clearlymunicating expectations and working toward d goals; and 4) advocating for their students to engage in additional GHM programs and special events to deepen their musical development and theirmitment to their studies. Groton Hill music offers many ancillary benefits to our faculty members, including a variety of paid professional performance opportunities and funding for professional development (by application). Regular weekly teaching throughout the school year is required, as is attendance at an annual fall faculty meeting, hosting at least one student recital, and thepletion of occasional clerical tasks. Timeliness and reliability, as well as strongmunication practices with both students/families and school staff, are essential.
