Description:
The Young Company at GBSC seeks an experienced Music Director and Teaching Artist for the overture program this summer. This is a three person team, consisting of an acting teacher, a dance teacher, and a music teacher. At present, we are seeking the music teacher. This is a paid position.
Dates:
The overture program is July 6-July 31 and runs Monday through Friday, 8:00-3:00 pm. Limited to 20 students in each week, our overture program introduces our youngest actors (grades 1-4) to musical theatre performance in a fun, open, and supportive atmosp. Acting, music, dance, and design are each important skills to help tell a story. Actors spend 2 weeks working on an original short musical filled with acting, singing and dancing, culminating in an informal sharing-style performance on the final Friday afternoon. Music Director:
Music direct the production according to the educational parameters of the program and schedule as indicated by the theatre. Collaborate with the staff to achieve the best product and highest quality possible, in keeping with the theatre's intended high standards of production. To teach and play music rehearsals and the staff sharing. Attend all pre-program planning activities. Participate in weekly full-program planning meetings. Participate in a daily midday planning period during the four rehearsal-weeks of the program. Teach, co-teach, or assistant-teach up to two ten-session workshops to a cast of approximately 25 students. Workshop schedule and topics will be determined in collaboration with the Education Department. To be an active participant in strike for the production. Ensure that all students and interns receive a rewarding, enjoyable and safe educational experience during their time at the program.
Qualifications:
Applicants must have experience in music directing, as well as the ability to play live shows. Applicants must have experience working with children, preferably in a theatrical setting. Applicants should be strong collaborators,municators, problem-solvers andanizers. Applicants should be able to balance an inclusive educational rehearsal process and a high-quality theatrical production. Applicants should be able to remain punctual, reliable, and flexible throughout the festival process. Completed or ongoing pursuit of training in theatre, music, or education a plus. Must pass
