ASAP Reports to: Minister Job status : Part time; 15-20 hours per week (negotiable). Hours from September to mid-June average 20 hours per week, while summer working hours average 5 hours per week About The Towson Unitarian Universalist Church TUUC is searching for a creative and energetic Music Director. Key Responsibilities:
Provide professional leadership for music at services throughout the church year. The Music Director is expected to be present at three-fourths of Sunday services and the Christmas Eve service. Coordinate music for Sundays during the church year when not personally present. Develop an annual Special Music Service. Direct and help grow the choir (currently around twenty members), which rehearses weekly and performs two or three times a month, September to June. Curate music for both choir and non-choir programming, drawing from a wide variety of musical styles and traditions. Recruit and coordinate guest musicians as needed. Create/work with existing musical groups to expand music opportunities at TUUC, including youth when possible. Participate collaboratively in weekly meetings with the Minister and other committees. This includes supporting the Lay Worship Committee in planning service music during the summer. Attend monthly staff and Program Council meetings. Manage the music budget with regard to purchasing music and paying for instrumental guests. Maintain music and instrument inventory. Share music-related information with the congregation through the church newsletter, website, or other means. Participate in the Association of UU Musicians (dues and conference costs will be paid by TUUC).
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher in music (preferred) Experience working as a choir director, music director, or music teacher Piano proficiency Strong interpersonal and organizational skills Familiarity with a variety of musical styles and traditions
Compensation and Working Hours FLSA:
Exempt (This is a salaried position and not eligible for overtime.)
Starting Pay Range:
$29,200 to $32,400 annually at 20 hours per week. Salary is commensurate with experience and based on UUA Fair Compensation Guidelines. Salary is paid every two weeks and is consistent throughout the twelve months.
