Job Description
PRIMARY PURPOSE + FUNCTION
The Sunday Gathering Director brings perspective, presence, + leadership to the entire Sunday morning experience. Working closely with the Lead Pastor, this role ensures that every aspect—from the first greeting at the door to the final word of the blessing—is cohesive, hospitable, + theologically resonant.QUALIFICATIONS + EDUCATION
- 5+ years of experience in creating + leading worship experiences in large group settings
- Bachelor's degree in Music, Theology, or Worship Arts preferred
- The courage to try + learn new things and the wisdom to honor the good things of the past
- Possess a joyful + generous presence that builds bridges across different ministry areas
- Genuinely curious about people and invested in their growth
- Value transparency, follow-through, and leading with a humble heart

- Demonstrates a deep love + commitment to Christ, a commitment to spiritual growth, formation, + discipleship
- Attend and be in covenant at Mars Hill Bible Church
- A worldview that is aligned with the vision, mission, Directions, + narrative theology of Mars Hill
- A team player + team builder who focuses on the good of the entire organization
- Accountable for ministry area's budget
- Strong ability to lead musical worship with an instrument at a high quality level
- Proven track record of managing and equipping high-level volunteer teams and diverse environments
- Experience in planning Gatherings that are creative yet grounded in deep theological roots
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to navigate disagreements with grace, and work toward collaborative solutions
RESPONSIBILITIES
Musical Worship- Sunday morning leadership + planning ~Develop + communicate vision + direction for the Worship Team that aligns with the mission + vision of Mars Hill + the Sunday Team ~A commitment + responsibility to develop + own strong processes for recruitment, onboarding and training ~Select songs and liturgy that align with our theology and vision ~Maintain scheduling, setlists, and planning tools [e.
- Church-wide culture, equipping, + resourcing including, but not limited to: ~Students ~Kids ~Classes/Learning Labs ~Miscellaneous Events + Environments [e.g. Prayer + Praise Night, Christmas Eve Service, Good Friday]
- Leads + plans with Ancient—Future sensibilities [as inspired and informed by the works of Robert E Webber] ○ Learns from the entire worshiping community [traditions other than one's own] ~Has a healthy respect for the past [honors and is informed by various time periods and diversified cultures] ~Is fully committed to contemporary relevance [conversant in modern forms and aesthetics] ~Sees worship as "the gospel in motion" [desires for the spread of the gospel Story to be narrated at each Gathering] ~Understands the practice of worship in its fullness [more than simply a synonym for music; includes the arts, Christian year, sacred actions, prayer, Eucharist, etc] Team Building + Development • Care for, development, + scheduling of Sunday Gathering music volunteers • Oversight of high capacity Sunday Gathering volunteer leaders including, but not limited to: ~Scripture readers ~Communion preparation ~Sunday Gathering hospitality Organizational Partnership • Participate on the Sunday team to dream about, plan for, + execute Sunday Gatherings • Assist in setting vision and liturgical emphasis alongside Lead Pastor and others • Management and maintenance of music charts + audio files in our database [Planning Center] • Available for the musical needs of the community's weddings + funerals Participate as a fully engaged member of the Mars Hill Staff Participate in Sunday responsibilities as needed [i.
