Job Description

Job Summary:
The Chorus Director provides artistic vision , leadership, and musical direction, for our non-audition adult community chorus of 100+ singers. The ideal candidate will conduct weekly evening rehearsals, select engaging music for members of diverse backgrounds, and prepare the group for two major concerts. This role focuses on fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and high-quality singing environment for community singers.
Key Responsibilities:
Select appropriate repertoire that aligns with the choir's skill level and artistic goals Provide constructive feedback and mentorship to singers to enhance their vocal development and confidence Foster a positive, inclusive atmosphere that encourages teamwork, respect, and enthusiasm among choir members Plan and conduct weekly evening rehearsals for the 100+ member adult ensemble Program and execute two major concerts per year: a Holiday/Christmas concert and a Spring concert omprised of a different creative theme each season. Select music using full access to the Troy Community Chorus Music Library, utilizing the provided seasonal budget for new music puchases. Manage a small seasonal financial allotment for guest instrumental musicians above and beyond the regular piano accompanist. Provide regular artistic reports, repertoire selections and guest musician updates at monthly Board of Director meetings. Coordinate closely with the regular Chorus accompanist.
Minimal Qualifications:
Bachelor of Arts in Music degree or equivalent and 2 years of experience conduting a choir/chorus. Demonstrated experience in conducting, with creative, interpersonal and adminsitrative skills necessary to lead and adult chorus musically and artistically in standard choral repertoire.
