April 13, 2026 Essential Duties & Strategic Planning The Director of Traditional Worship is responsible for the vision, planning, and execution of all Traditional liturgical elements (excluding the sermon).
This includes:
Worship Design:
Collaborative planning and presentation of Traditional services, ensuring theological and musical alignment.
Administrative Leadership:
Overseeing all Traditional worship-related communication.
Financial Oversight:
Overseeing Traditional Worship budgets and endowments.
Musical Direction & Performance Instrumental Performance:
Serving as the primary Organist/Pianist for all regular Traditional services, weddings, funerals, and special liturgical events.
Musical Leadership:
Directing and rehearsing diverse musical groups, including the handbell choirs, quartets, ensembles, cantatas, Chancel Choir (as needed), and such.
Instruction:
Selecting, preparing, and teaching repertoire for all choirs and soloists, ensuring high standards of musicality and spiritual expression.
Worship Support & Technical Oversight Liturgical Coordination:
Overseeing non-musical worship ministries, including communion stewards, ushers, acolytes, and the maintenance of liturgical materials (candles, paraments, etc.).
Technical Management:
Ensuring the regular maintenance of all audio equipment and church-owned musical instruments.
Ministry Growth & Asset Management Recruitment:
Identifying and cultivating talent within the congregation and hiring professional soloists or instrumentalists as needed.
Library Management:
Maintaining a comprehensive music library for choral, brass, handbell, keyboard, and vocal solo works.
Special Events:
Coordinating concerts and musical outreach events both within the church and the broader community.
Active participation in weekly staff meetings, Worship Logistics and Design Team meetings, and other church-wide events as requested by the Lead Pastor.
Leadership:
Serving as the primary leader for the Music Committee.

Musicality:

A Master's or Bachelor's degree in Sacred Music, Organ Performance, Choral Conducting, or a related field is preferred, or sufficient field experience and relevant training. Lifelong learner who participates in continuing education events
Experience:
Demonstrated success in directing church music programs, with advanced proficiency in organ and piano performance.
Leadership:
Proven ability to recruit, lead, and inspire volunteer musicians and lay leaders. Strong organizational and leadership skills.
Technical Knowledge:
Familiarity with liturgical traditions, handbell techniques, and basic audio-visual systems. Physical Requirements & Essential Functions The following physical demands are representative of those an employee must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
Musical Performance:
Ability to operate complex musical instruments, including the organ and piano, for extended periods during rehearsals and worship services. Must be able to execute precise manual dexterity and coordinate hand and foot movements simultaneously.
Vocal & Auditory:
Ability to lead a congregation in singing while simultaneously performing on an instrument. Must possess the auditory acuity to evaluate musical pitch, rhythm, and ensemble balance for various musical groups.
Direction & Conducting:
Ability to provide clear visual cues and conducting gestures to lead the choir, bell choir, and congregation.
Physical Strength & Mobility:
Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver equipment and musical cases (such as handbell sets) weighing up to 50 lbs on a regular basis. Ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for long durations during services or rehearsals. Sufficient mobility to move between the organ console, piano, and other areas within the sanctuary or rehearsal spaces.
Communication:
Ability to effectively communicate musical instructions and evaluations to staff, volunteers, and choir members in both one-on-one and group settings. With 99 levels of memory, two 32-foot stops, a high-wind-pressure festival trumpet, and 1/2-inch-thick choir and swell shades for greater dynamic expression, the organ is highly versatile for church and concert-level repertoire. The original organ was built by W. M. Zimmer. Cornell Zimmer revoiced pipes when he restored and expanded it in 2012. The organ sits on a movable platform and is cared for by the Muller Pipe Organ Company.
