Music Director and Pianist St Michaels Episcopal Church Independence, MO Job Details Part-time $1,000 - $1,500 a month 8 hours ago Qualifications Teamwork Volunteer management Piano Musical liturgical knowledge Full Job Description Job Summary We are seeking a creative, talented and ambitious Music Director and Pianist to lead our growing music program. This role combines artistic leadership with mentorship, empowering choristers and congregational singers alike to reach their full potential in worship. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for worship planning, song selection and volunteer management, as well as a talent for inspiring creativity within a collaborative setting. As a key figure in our organization, you will shape the musical vision, oversee performances, and cultivate a supportive community dedicated to authentic musical expression. Duties Sundays from 10:00 - 11:15 am: Lead the choir and congregational signing from the piano, using both voice and piano to guide and support the flow of the service. A choir warm-up time may also be needed. Weekly for 1-2 hours: Lead rehearsals, and build our small choir into a confident and harmonious unit. Coordinate with clergy and worship committee to plan liturgies, and select appropriate and engaging music for each service. Solicit and receive feedback from parishioners to help guide decisions in the future. Creatively seek out ways to engage with our Episcopal musical heritage, while also blending in cross-cultural expressions, and innovating fresh ways to offer our musical worship to God, in a manner that's fitting for our space and our parish culture. We expect these duties to be completed in 10 hours per week, most weeks. Planning and communications work (about 5 hours per week) may be done remotely. Services and rehearsals (another 5 hours per week) will take place at the church. Skills Proven experience in leading music across various levels, from beginners to advanced performers Strong leadership abilities with a personal understanding of liturgical worship in a mainline church Excellent communication skills to articulate artistic concepts clearly and inspire others Strong piano and vocal skills, including sight-reading, and a comfort with solo performance as well as supporting the performance of others. St. Michael's Episcopal Church is a vibrant and growing parish that enthusiastically welcomes people of all ages, races, genders and sexual orientations, to participate and/or lead at every level.
