Seasonal Position Summary The Show Choir Pit Director is responsible for coordinating and directing the instrumental ensemble (pit band) that accompanies the school's show choir program. The director works collaboratively with the Show Choir Director to provide a musical accompaniment, support rehearsal and performances, and ensure a high quality musical experience for students. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Musical Direction and Instruction Select, arrange, and prepare instrumental music for show choir performances in collaboration with the Show Choir Director. Direct and rehearse the pit ensemble to ensure musical accuracy, balance, and stylistic consistency. Provide instruction and guidance to student musicians to support musical growth and performance readiness. Ensure coordination between vocalists, choreography, and instrumental accompaniment. Rehearsal and Performance Coordination Schedule and conduct rehearsals for the pit ensemble as needed for performance and competitions. Supervise and direct pit musicians during show choir performances, competitions, and events. Coordinate with the Show Choir Director to align musical temp, cues, and transitions with choreography and staging. Assist with preparing music and equipment for performances and travel events. Student Development and Leadership Encourage musical growth, responsibility, and teamwork among student musicians. Promote a positive and supportive rehearsal environment that fosters student engagement and performance excellence. Model professionalism, dedication, and collaboration within the performing arts program. Administration and Collaboration Maintain organization of sheet music, arrangements, and instrumental materials. Coordinate equipment, sound needs, and rehearsal logistics with the Show Choir Director and staff. Communicate with students, parents/guardians, and administration regarding rehearsal schedules and expectations. Support fundraising, competitions and special events associated with show choir program as appropriate. Other Duties Attend rehearsals, performances, and required meetings or events. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelor's degree required; Bachelor's Degree in Education or Music related field preferred. Previous experience in vocal performance, show choir, dance, or music direction preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of instrumental music direction and ensemble performance Knowledge of musical accompaniment techniques for vocal ensembles and show choir productions. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents/guardians, staff and administration. Ability to promote a safe, inclusive, and performance-focused environment. Physical & Environmental Requirements Physical Requirements Ability to stand, conduct, and actively participate during rehearsals and performances. Ability to lift, carry, and set up musical equipment, instruments. Or sound equipment as needed. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Work Environment Exposure to indoor performance and rehearsal environments.
