Assistant or Associate Professor of Music Education and Director of Bands (Exempt)- This position may become tenure track based on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant.

The person in this position will direct HSU's Concert Band, direct HSU's Cowboy Band, and teach undergraduate classes and applied lessons in the candidate's area of expertise for the School of Music.APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Directs and develops HSU's Concert Band and presents semester concerts. Directs and develops HSU's Cowboy Band, arranging for outside performances including opportunities nationally and internationally. Actively recruits for the instrumental program as well as the School of Music at large. Teaches within the School of Music. Advises current and prospective Music Education students. Provides service to the School of Music, College of Arts and Media, and university through involvement in committees as well as other university activities (e.g., commencement, convocation, etc.). Collaborates effectively with faculty, staff, administrators, and members of the community. Engages in ongoing professional development as well as artistic/scholarly work.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
There are no supervisor responsibilities, except for student workers.COMPETENCIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software; Internet software; Payroll systems and Order processing systems.EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in music is required, degree in music education is preferred. A completed master's degree in music with at least 18 completed graduate hours in the candidate's area of expertise is required. A music education degree is preferred. A doctoral degree in the field of music is preferred although not required for this position. Additionally, a minimum of five (5) years of conducting and teaching experience at either the high school or college level is preferred. Experience organizing and traveling with student groups is also preferred.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Active or valid Teaching Music Certification preferred.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position is a Full-Time, Exempt Level Faculty position with a teaching load at the Hardin-Simmons University campus. In addition to teaching, this position often requires extensive evening and/or week-end work, including frequent travel representing the university with university bands and instrumental ensembles to meet university needs. Ability to travel when needed for recruitment, various parades, and events, is required. Must have and maintain a valid Class C Driver's License and maintain a clear driving record to be insurable under the university liability policy. Must be able to drive to complete work assignments on and off campus, as needed. Additional travel may be required on occasion to attend training, etc.EMPLOYEE BENEFITS
