Funding:
This position is locally funded. Salary based on the Boerne ISD Teacher Step Scale. Consideration for directly related experience supported by an official service record or experience affidavit. Annualized pay may be pro-rated based on actual start date. Position Summary Assist in the direction and management of band program. Provide students with an opportunity to participate in extracurricular band activities and ensure compliance with all state, UIL, and district requirements. Assist in the development and implementation of music activities to achieve district, region, and state recognition. Minimum Requirements Bachelor's degree from an accredited university. Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for the subject and level assigned. Demonstrated competency in instructional music Must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the candidate. Preferred Qualifications Three (3) years teaching and band directing experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of overall operation of band program Knowledge of state and UIL policies governing band Knowledge of core academic subject assigned. Knowledge of curriculum and instruction. Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities Instructional Strategies Direct instrumental performers, including marching band, concert band, soloists, and ensembles. Establish performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student's eligibility to participate in band. Provide for band participation at extracurricular events, including concerts, football games, pep rallies, parades, and UIL. Support band booster club activities. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP). Work with other member of the staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements. Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to determine program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responds to student needs.
STUDENT GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing. Be a positive role model for students and support mission of the school district.
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT AND ORGANIZATION
Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. Manage student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook. Accompany and supervise students on out-of-town trips activities and arrange transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town events. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
COMMUNICATION
Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
BUDGET AND INVENTORY
Coordinate fundraising activities and manage funds. Maintain current inventory of all fixed assets related to the program. Oversee cleaning, repairing, and storing of all instruments and equipment. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, UIL rules, and board policy in the band area. Other Duties as assigned.
Working Conditions Tools/Equipment Used:
Standard instructional equipment, including personal computer and peripherals.
Posture:
Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
Motion:
Frequent walking, including frequent keyboarding/use of mouse; occasional reaching.
Lifting:
Moderate lifting and carrying (less than 45 pounds); Move small stacks of instruments, band equipment, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
Environment:
Work outside and inside; exposure to extreme temperatures (hot, cold, and inclement weather), humidity, and prolonged sunlight; work on uneven or slippery surfaces; frequent exposure to noise. Frequent district and statewide travel
Mental Demands:
Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours. Supervisory Responsibilities Direct the work of assigned instructional aide(s).
