Primary Purpose:
To develop in each pupil an appreciation of the art of music as part of general culture; to teach techniques of orchestral music expression; to discover and develop the talents of pupils in the field of band music; to develop knowledge and skills in listening to band music and in reading and performing orchestra music.

Minimum of a Bachelor's degree. A valid Texas teacher's certificate or such other credentials as may be required by the State Board for
Educator Certification Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Assist the Director of Fine Arts in overseeing the orchestra program among those junior high schools and elementary schools which are a part of the feeder system of the high school. Plan a program of study in orchestra that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of all students enrolled based on the district's educational philosophy, goals, objectives, and individual student plans. Control the storage and use of school-owned property; provide for adjustments and repairs to instruments/equipment as required for optimum use and longevity. Evaluate each student's musical growth and performance individually, as well as assessing his/her contribution to the performance of the group including, but not limited to, the documentation of mastery of essential elements. Plan, rehearse, and direct students in musical programs for schools and in the community and cooperate with district and school administration in providing a positive musical experience for all students. Select and requisition books, instruments, equipment, instructional aids, and other needed supplies and materials and maintain required inventory and maintenance records. Foster a positive atmosphere for the promotion of the Fine Arts. Know all rules and guidelines pertaining to UIL activities. Responsible for making sure all bands are entered correctly for these activities. Responsible for maintaining a positive Private Lesson Program. Includes submitting all appropriate paperwork needed for district approval. Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students. Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation. Establish and maintain standards of appropriate student behavior. Employ a variety of instructional strategies and media which meet the needs and capabilities of the students. Evaluate student performance on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required. Refer students with special needs to the appropriate district specialist and participate on committees related to individual student planning. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, self, equipment, materials, and facilities in order to provide an ongoing, safe classroom environment. Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation. Assist as directed in the daily operations of the school. Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when needed. Plan and supervise duties for teacher aides and volunteers. Maintain and improve competence through participation in professional training. Attend all staff meetings and serve on committees as requested. Maintain and cultivate a positive and professional relationship with campus and departmental faculty and staff.
