Senior Pastor Position Overview:
The Director of Worship & Arts serves New City Presbyterian Church by overseeing and cultivating the musical and artistic life of the congregation. This role exists to support and enhance the gathered worship of God's people, ensuring that all elements of music and liturgical arts are theologically rich, musically excellent, and pastorally formative. The Director will work closely with the Senior Pastor to shape services that are Christ-centered, participatory, and rooted in the historic Christian faith while engaging the gifts and talents of the congregation.
Key Responsibilities:
Worship Leadership:
Lead and oversee all aspects of music for weekly worship services Select songs, coordinate arrangements, and plan rehearsals in collaboration with the Senior Pastor Provide musical leadership during Sunday worship services through instrumental and/or vocal participation Encourage a culture of joyful congregational singing rather than performance-driven worship
Team Development:
Recruit, develop, and shepherd musicians and vocalists Foster both musical growth and spiritual maturity among team members Plan and lead weekly rehearsals with preparation, clarity, and encouragement Ensure each music team member has at least one Sunday off per month
Worship Planning:
Coordinate and schedule volunteer teams for Sunday services and special worship gatherings Plan music and liturgical elements for Advent, Christmas, Holy Week, Easter, and other special services Cultivate a catalog of songs and liturgical elements that reflect biblical truth, theological depth, and congregational accessibility Utilize resources such as the
Trinity Hymnal and Indelible Grace Arts & Administration:
Work with church leadership to incorporate appropriate artistic expressions into worship services Coordinate Scripture readings, visual elements, and seasonal liturgies Maintain and organize music resources, charts, and equipment Manage subscriptions and resources including Planning Center, CCLI, SongSelect, and other technology services Communicate regularly with team members regarding schedules, expectations, and encouragement
Qualifications & Expectations:
Demonstrated musical leadership experience in a church or ministry setting Ability to lead both musicians and congregations in worship Strong organizational, communication, and team-building skills Commitment to fostering spiritual growth and discipleship within the worship ministry Agreement with the theological commitments and values of New City Presbyterian Church Regular participation in the life and worship of the church
Terms of Employment:
Part-time position averaging approximately 10-15 hours per week Hours include rehearsals, Sunday services, planning, and preparation Compensation commensurate with experience and qualifications Regular meetings with the Senior Pastor for planning, evaluation, and encouragement Employment is at-will and subject to the policies and procedures of New City Presbyterian Church
