Beginning:
Summer 2026 Position Summary The Lead Band Director is responsible for the overall leadership, instruction, and administration of the high school band/music program. This position oversees all aspects of the instrumental music program, including marching band, concert ensembles, jazz band, and UIL participation, while fostering musical excellence, student growth, and a positive program culture aligned with district goals. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instruction & Program Leadership Provide high-quality instruction in instrumental music to high school students Serve as the primary director for marching band, concert band(s), and other assigned ensembles Design and implement a comprehensive band/music curriculum aligned with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) Prepare students for UIL marching, concert, and sight-reading contests Plan and conduct rehearsals, sectionals, and performances Collaborate with assistant band director/(s) to ensure program consistency Program Administration Oversee the daily operation of the band program, including scheduling, budgeting, inventory, and equipment maintenance Manage the band budget in coordination with campus administration Coordinate performances, competitions, travel, and special events Maintain accurate records for students, finances, and inventory Ensure compliance with district policies, UIL rules, and safety standards Student Development & Culture Foster a positive, inclusive, and disciplined learning environment Promote student leadership, teamwork, and personal responsibility Support student academic success and eligibility requirements Communicate high expectations for musicianship, behavior, and professionalism Community & Collaboration Communicate effectively with parents, administrators, faculty, and community stakeholders Work collaboratively with feeder middle school band director/(s) to support vertical alignment Coordinate with the band booster organization and parent volunteers Represent the band program positively at school and community events Professional Responsibilities Participate in professional development and remain current with best practices in music education Maintain active membership in professional organizations such as TMEA or other comparable organization Fulfill all duties assigned by campus or district administration Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Music Education or related field Valid Texas teaching certificate in Music Demonstrated experience directing high school band programs but not required Knowledge of UIL regulations and Texas band traditions Preferred Master's degree in Music Education or Conducting Successful experience leading a competitive marching band program Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills Physical & Time Requirements Ability to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and summer band activities Ability to stand for long periods and work outdoors in varying weather conditions Contract Probationary/Term contract per district policy Extended days and stipend as assigned by district
