Primary Purpose:
Assist with management of the overall theatre program for the campus and district. Provide students with an opportunity to participate in extracurricular theatre activities and ensure compliance with all state and district requirements. Assist in the planning of theatre activities in accordance with campus and district expectations. Assist head director to prepare to provide students the opportunity to achieve district, region, and state recognition.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree in theatre from an accredited college or university Valid Texas teaching certificate in theatre ESL Certification preferred or ESL Certification required within two (2) years of employment beginning with teachers hired in 2010-11 school year
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of overall operation of theatre program Able to manage budget and personnel Knowledge of state, UIL, TETA, and ITS policies governing theatre activities Able to interpret policy, procedures, and data Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Theatre directing/technical experience preferred Experience with one act play required
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies Assist with directing the middle school theatre students in various educational theatre components including, but not limited to, acting, costuming, make-up, set design and construction, lighting, sound, technical, and directing. Establish performance/participation requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student's eligibility to participate in theatre activities. Support theatre director in providing student participation at extracurricular theatre events, including various performance venues. Assist head theatre director with arranging transportation for off campus events. Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules and local school board policy in the theatre area. Support theatre booster club activities, if applicable. Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to determine program effectiveness and to ensure that program renewal is continuous and responsive to student needs. Recommend policies to improve program. Ensure that programs are cost effective and funds are managed wisely. Attend all professional and staff meetings as requested and/or directed. Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs. Maintain current inventory of all fixed assets within department. Coordinate fundraising activities and manage funds. Oversee the process of cleaning, repairing, and storing of all theatre equipment, props, costume components, etc. Assist in the development and implementation plans for theatre program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing. Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. Apply and enforce student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct, student handbook, and theatre handbook. Accompany and supervise students at all theatre activities and on all trips. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers. Maintain professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members. Assist with recruitment, selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of assistant theatre teachers, if applicable. Work to provide campus, District, and community awareness of theatre activities and performances. Provide supervisory leadership and management to all component groups within theatre program. Engage and plan with intermediate and high school theatre director(s) to align program activities with "cluster" high school theatre program(s). Actively participate in District theatre performance opportunities, as requested. The employee is expected to adhere to district employee/department/campus handbooks, board policies, AISD procedures, the Texas Educator's Code of Ethics and all applicable laws. Administer and supervise all booster club activities, if applicable. Other Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief. Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities Administer and supervise duties of adult volunteers assisting with productions. Administer and supervise all booster club activities, if applicable. Evaluation Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of teachers, the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS), and the extracurricular assignment evaluation.

Probationary contract - 187 days plus 4 days of Alief U professional development for a teacher new to the district 2025-2026 Salary Schedule Minimum teacher salary is $66,500 (base $64,100 + $2,400 Teacher Retention Allotment (TRA) Stipend) Salary is based on 187 days. If working less than 187 days, the salary will be less.
