Classroom Teacher Salary ScalePRIMARY PURPOSE
The Middle School Head Choir Director is responsible for teaching an overview of musical elements and styles to beginning students, for teaching vocal techniques and choral skills to the choir students, and for providing curricular and extra-curricular opportunities for use of the learned skills in keeping with the District philosophies, procedures, policies and programs. All employees of SISD are expected to act with integrity, support organizational goals, communicate in a clear and respectful manner, championing the needs of our students and drive continuous improvement.QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university Valid Texas teaching certificatePreferred:
Three years teaching and choir directing experienceSPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
Knowledge of overall operation of vocal music program Ability to manage budget and personnel Knowledge of state and UIL policies governing choir and extracurricular activities Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skillsMAJOR REPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Reporting directly to the building principal, the Middle School Head Choir Director performs the following duties: Coordinates with the Director of Performing and Visual Arts to meet District curriculum goals and objectives. Works with the High School Head Choir Director to ensure vertical alignment of curriculum. Organizes the instruction of choral music classes. Assesses abilities and needs of students Teaches theory and techniques appropriate to grade level and ability. Plans instruction and activities for a development program to increase students' abilities from one grade to the next. Encourages appreciationof music Organizes the choral music for the building. Cooperates with Director of Performing and Visual Arts to recruit, interview and employee private lesson teachers. Plans competitive activities such as Regional "Fall Choral Clinic and University Interscholastic League" contests. Coordinates and schedules activities according to the school calendar. Encourages respect for and enjoyment of public performance. Stresses good sportsmanship in competition. Assumes responsibility for administration of choral music funds. Plans for budgeting and requisitioning supplies, as well as accounting for receipt and disbursement of funds. Arranges for choosing and purchasing uniforms for performances. Maintains accurate inventory record of equipment and uniforms. Exemplifies citizenship, sportsmanship and professionalism in behavior and performance of duties. Promotes community understanding through communication with parents and concern for students. Remains current in the field of choral music education through professional organizations, professional literature, workshops and in-service programs. Complies with the position description of the classroom teacher. Performs other appropriate duties as assigned by the principal and the Director of Performing and Visual Arts.WORKING CONDITIONS

Frequent district and occasional statewide travel; prolonged and irregular hours; outdoor and indoor work; exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather.Mental demands:
Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; ability to interpret a variety of data; ability to interpret TEC and policy; ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory, ability to be effective in both oral and written communication; ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
