Share this WhatsApp LinkedIn Facebook X Share Head of Music St Michael's Grammar School Closing date: 22/05/2026 Ongoing | 1.0 load | Commencing Semester 2, 2026 We are seeking an inspiring and collaborative Head of Music to join our vibrant K-12 community at St Michael's Grammar School starting in Semester 2, 2026. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced educator and leader to contribute to the continued growth of a thriving and dynamic music program within a supportive and collegial environment. This is an ongoing position with a teaching load of approximately two classes. Leadership responsibilities and portfolio areas will be negotiated based on the strengths, passions, and experience of the successful applicant. The Role For Semester 2, 2026, the position will serve as Head of Music K-12, providing Long Service Leave cover. In this capacity, the Head of Music will have responsibility for the K-12 Music curriculum, coordinate the ensemble program, and support the delivery of key school events. The role will also co-lead the instrumental music program in collaboration with the Director of Performing Arts and the Performing Arts Administrator. From 2027, the role will evolve into a collaborative Head of Music position with a primarily Years 4-12 remit and a particular instrumental and/or ensemble and co-curricular focus, further strengthening the faculty's shared leadership model while supporting the continued growth and excellence of the Music program. About You You are an enthusiastic, forward‑thinking music educator and leader who is committed to collaboration, shared leadership, and excellence in music education. You bring experience in music teaching and/or program leadership and are passionate about fostering a rich, inclusive, and high‑quality music culture across a K-12 setting.
You will:
Hold tertiary qualification in Education with a major in Music (essential) Bring strong leadership, staff management, coaching and mentoring skills with an ability to build staff morale and create a cohesive team Hold current VIT registration Demonstrate initiative, adaptability, and a strategic mindset Ensure high‑quality curriculum delivery and pedagogical practice are embedded within assessment and reporting processes across the K-12 Music program Lead the coordination of ensembles and support a thriving performance culture across the School Support the planning and delivery of music events, performances, and community engagement initiatives Collaborate in the operational leadership of the instrumental music program Contribute to strategic planning and the ongoing development of the Music faculty About the School St Michael's Grammar School is one of the leading K-12, co-educational schools in Australia, respected for its exceptional educational offering, wellbeing programs and deep commitment to innovative approaches to teaching, learning and caring.
