DRAMA DIRECTOR
Black Hills High School Stipend:
$1,679 This position will remain open until filled. Tumwater School District reserves the right to make a hiring decision at any time after the initial screening after 4 PM on Monday, April 20, 2026 . : Criminal justice fingerprint clearance.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Drama Director provides artistic and administrative support to the Drama Director. This role focuses on the execution of the Director's vision, specialized student coaching, and managing the logistical "moving parts" of the production to ensure a professional and educational experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Instructional Support:
Work with small groups or individual students on line memorization, character development, and blocking as directed by the Lead Director.
Rehearsal Presence:
Attend all rehearsals to assist with pacing, take detailed notes for the cast, and provide a "second set of eyes" on stage pictures and performance quality.
Understudy Management:
(If applicable) Lead separate rehearsals for understudies or swing performers to ensure show readiness.
Music Liaison:
Assist the Director in coordinating with the Pit Orchestra and Vocal Director.
Operational Music Tasks:
Help manage the distribution and collection of scripts and scores, ensuring all rented materials are tracked and returned in good condition.
Conducting/Accompaniment:
Provide backup support for instrumental or vocal rehearsals when the primary conductors are unavailable.
Stage Management Oversight:
Act as a bridge between the Director and the student stage crew to ensure technical cues (lighting, sound, sets) align with the artistic vision.
Space Stewardship:
Primary responsibility for "opening and closing" the rehearsal space, ensuring the stage and house are clean, organized, and reset after each session.
Communication:
Assist the Director in drafting parent newsletters, rehearsal schedules, or program bios.
Student Conduct:
Help maintain a focused, disciplined, and inclusive atmosphere during rehearsals.
Teamwork:
Model collaborative behavior with faculty, volunteers, and the technical director.
REQUIREMENTS
Promote productions within the school and the wider community, encouraging attendance and participation. Ensure a safe environment for all participants, adhering to school policies and safety regulations.
