DESCRIPTION
Starting Salary Range:
Compensation starts at $150 per Mass or rehearsal, based on experience. Additional compensation available if open to accompanying for funerals and/or weddings.
Description:
The parish places a high value on beautiful, excellent, and prayerful music in the liturgy. The piano accompanist role is vital to the heartfelt worship of our community. We are piano led (no organ available) with the regular addition of wind, brass, or string instruments for a full sound. We utilize the best of Catholic sacred music, including Gregorian chant, traditional hymns and choral repertoire, and contemporary devotional music. We are seeking a piano accompanist to play 1-3 Sundays a month with one or both of our excellent choirs. The worship director and piano accompanist are a collaborative team in leading the choirs. Our adult choir is made up of around 30 volunteer singers who are committed to musical growth in a fun and prayerful environment. Our youth choir is made up of talented, sweet children and teens who love to learn about music and the liturgy. The choirs are on a rotation each month, with the adults singing two Sundays, and the youth singing one Sunday per month. The adults also sing for other major solemnities. The choir year goes from September through Corpus Christi. This position would include Sundays during the summer when the choirs are off. We have an additional part-time accompanist, and the Worship Director is also able to accompany, to provide flexibility to this position. If desired, this position could also include some funerals and weddings, or community events with music.
QUALIFICATIONS
Expectations:
Demonstrated piano proficiency as a collaborative accompanist. Skilled in playing from choral scores, traditional and contemporary hymns, and lead sheets. Willingness to collaborate and take direction. Arrive on time, organized, and well-prepared to perform music. Have a positive attitude and relationship with volunteers and other paid musicians. Basic understanding of sound equipment, or willingness to learn. Experienced with Catholic liturgy and teaching pertaining to sacred music preferred, or willingness to learn acceptable for the right candidate. Choir rehearsals are on Wednesdays at 5:15pm for the youth choir, and 7pm for the adult choir. Mass times on Sundays are 9 and 11am, with call time one hour before Mass. Summer Mass times are the same with a cantor or small group of singers instead of a choir; no rehearsals in summer.
