Job Description

Creedmoor United Methodist Church (214 Park Ave, Creedmoor, NC 27522) is seeking a part-time paid Accompanist. This small, somewhat rural, church is located just off Rt. 50 about 10 miles north of Rt. 98 if coming from the Raleigh/Durham/Wake Forest area. The primary responsibility of the Accompanist is to collaborate with the Choir Director and the Pastor to create Christ-centered worship that enables and inspires people to draw nearer to God. The Accompanist provides musical support by playing piano (and/or organ if so inclined) for the Sunday 11:00 AM traditional-style service and a few other special services throughout the year. The Accompanist is afforded great liberty in the selection of music/styles for preludes, offertories, postludes, etc. with the understanding that these should be within the realm of sacred music. The Accompanist also plays for Chancel Choir anthems/rehearsals. Occasionally, there may be other vocal and/or instrumental ensembles requiring accompaniment. Choir rehearsals are held before and after the worship service making only one trip to the church necessary in a typical week - and in the lighter traffic of Sunday morning. The time commitment at the church, then, is from about 9:45 AM to 12:45 PM. Congregational hymns are drawn from The Methodist Hymnal and The Faith We Sing. Hymns and choir anthems are selected far enough in advance for the Accompanist to feel prepared. There's no regular expectation of sight-reading, transposition, arranging music for other instruments, etc. The choir strives to do music within its reach very well, but this is not intended to be a high-stress situation. Anyone interested should email the church office at CreedmoorUMC@outlook.com and/or the Pastor, Keith Sexton, at ksexton@nccumc.org.
